I am hoping you guys can help me figure out what I need for IPSC Production division, as far as gear goes. I am sure this is posted somewhere on this site, but I can't find it, and I know I can read through the rulebook to figure it out, but this seems like a much easier route plus you guys can provide more detail/direction than the rulebook would.

So I have a gun. Thats about it. lol I only have 1 mag for it, I don't have a belt, mag holders, holster.

Are those the only gear I need? Whats a good entry-level belt worth? How many mags do I need?

I'm surprised this sort of info isn't sticky'd at the top of the forum, honestly...

You need min 5 mags, 4 pouches (I like 5 pouches 6 mags), and use ghost 360), double belt (I use ghost again), holster and appropriate drop/offset adapter (not needed, but I really like dropped/offset holsters easier with a belly). Holster, id go bladetech.

I've been told the Fobus SP-11 holster fits my gun (Diamondback DB9) and they are pretty cheap so I might start there. Although I am certainly open to other options.

Well the original DB9 isn't even legal in Canada (3" barrel, no?)...So yes its the DB9FS.

I'd double check with the area coordinator as your exact model isn't on the list. Probably should be OK, but them ipsc shooters are sticklers for the rules...

My gear:

CR Speed Belt
Bladetech DOH - Holster, very adjustable and change have a great drop and offset for it
Ghost 360 Mag Pouches - I run 4 mag pouches (I should probably run 5)
Magnet pouch - for a spare magazine if needed
5 Magazines normally

There's a triple qualifier going on at TMSA this long weekend. It's a good opportunity to see what folks are using and what qualifiers are like. You can pick up all your gear from mdgardner.com. Murray sells quality stuff and is usually at all the qualifiers so it's easy to pick up gear from him.

I like to run 6 mags with 5 mag pouches with magnets for table starts and to hold my stripper mag in the back. A simple drop in holster is good to start with. I run a CR Speed holster for Production, and a Double Alpha Race Master for Revolver div's, but that's just a personal preference to reduce holster wear on my guns :)

Murray has been involved in IPSC in BC since the very beginning, and also teaches the Black Badge course too so he's got a TON of experience to draw on :)

Its the model listed as the "FS9". Diamondback sticks DB infront of all their model names (DB9 is a compact pistol, DB9FS is a full size. Highly original naming scheme I know...), so I am assuming IPSC just ignores that part. Every other gun Diamondback makes is either a compact pistol or an AR platform rifle(DB15, DB9R, ect. go figure), so I can't think of any other possibilities.

Care to elaborate on what that means? (Both stripper clip, and why a magnet for table starts)

As for the drop holster, due to the gun I have not being a super-popular gun, holster options are limited. I'm sure it'll fit in some holsters designed for other guns (Ganderite tells me it'll fit in a Fobus SP-11, which is designed for the XD for instance) But I am not sure which ones...

Just get whatever holster you can get for now. You'll end up upgrading later anyways, a fobus paddle holster is alright with some zapstraps to keep it secured in place.

Not sure if magnets are allowed in production, I know they aren't allowed in uspsa production. Table starts you have to put your gun on the table and all mags on the table. You can either plan our stage to revolve around your mags or spend time putting them in your pouches. With magnets you just place near and it sticks.

Stripper clip he probably means Barney mag (you load one round from magazine then load another 10 rounder for 10+1 at beep).

DOH - I needed more caffeine this morning lol. Yes, stripper mag!

In IPSC, we are allowed to use magnets so long as they comply with the 50mm rule (unless it's a table start). I have a separate holster, mag pouch, holster setup for USPSA where magnets and race type holsters are not allowed.

So you are saying for a table start, magnets are better than more traditional hard bodied mag holders, because putting your stuff back onto your belt is much faster? Makes sense.

Ideally you want to have a total of seven magazines.

Five mags will be on your belt.
You can get by with only four on the belt. But five gives you better options of when to change mags on longer stages.

Mag number six will be in your gun at the start signal.

The seventh mag will only have one round in it.
You'll use that mag when you load and make ready, so you'll have 10+1 at the start buzzer.

Yep, when I shoot uspsa I just load the gun and leave magazine on table if I'm coming back around. Then again I get 23 rounds per mag lol
