Hey all, been duck hunting 2 yrs now and deer for a few. yesterday a friend took me out for geese and it was a blast. I wish I could post a pic but unable to figure it out. now I know im going to be hooked on it. Like Duck, just bigger birds, those end season migrators get some size. nom nom nom

What I would like to know is that I'm in the Ottawa / Valley area, and wondering if anyone knows of anyone selling or where to buy a some decoys for field and a good layout blind(obviously not new prices). I'm guessing being near end season, peeps will want to off load some of the old for some new, or at least I'm hoping to catch a price break on a dozen or 2 deeks. Also, what should I get, shells, sills those bag looking ones? Or when is the best time to buy new, after new year cause season and stores are done with them? experience needed

Please let me know if you have any advice or info where to start.

Thanks

Depending on what you are looking for in decoys shells come on handy and the full bodies ones draw them in too.
The problem lies in with storage of said full bodied decoys.
Some guys have a dozen or two and others will have several dozen sets ( dozens of dozens ) that require substantial storage.
Where do you hunt?
Fields, open bodies of water?
Rob

See if you have some local outfitters looking to clear out gear after the seasons end. They usually blow it out cheap.

Good call never though of that. There is one down my street. I only know that cause he he stoped by my place as he liked my canoe layout blind and boat i was outfitting. I made a Mud motor and he was really interested. Ill ask and see if the have anything for liquidation

first time for geese, so field, Montague township i think. My friend who brought me is not a water guy. I however love boating and jump shooting. I think i have all i need besides a dog for Waterfowl, but for field...fowl, all i got thats useful is camo, calls and a gun, thats about it.

Id like to know how small you can make a spread and still be successful. Especially over water...hard to drag 100 floaters through the swamp by my lonesome
Sorry for the hijack. .

I use my 12' Canoe with a make shift blind. I bring in 12+ mallards and 6ish of a white duck (blue bills) and then 3-4 geese floaters. This brings in a lot of ducks as I have been told from others that geese are confidence magnets for smaller ducks.

I would think on the water, at least 6 would work, but the guys I see on the water have 2-3 dozen, too much for my boat or canoe

I was looking yesterday, didn't see much so figured id try the form

I actually see more decoys in the summer. Well before hunting season. I'm always looking for them. I bought some cheap shells. 27 shells and 14 heads for $1oo this summer and touched them up with some new paint. I would start with a couple dozen shells and go from there depending on your needs. These are G&H Heneryettan decoys. I had 12 from 25 years ago and wanted more of the same.

He spelt it right, just some of us are dumb dumbs and dont read properly LOL.

Haha, no worries.

Just had me wondering who was spreading lies about me on the forum! ;)

Edit: To add to this specific thread. I have bought many silhouettes on ebay for super cheap. That's definitely a good spot to start.
