I put a SSA-E trigger in my 102 and when shooting for groups off the bench I am experiencing a high percentage of a dead trigger.
The rifle ejects and loads a new round into the chamber but the trigger is dead...I have to charge the rifle manually to reset the trigger.
Any ideas? Thanks

It just an idea, but does the 102 come with a ramped bolt?!?

Found this on another site.

Thank you for contacting us, we are sorry to hear of this issue. Yes sir, what happened when your rifle was in 9mm configuration is very common, and does happen to semi-auto triggers/guns as well when dealing with ramped bolts. It’s called hammer follow. Our triggers were designed to work with ar15 rifles which do not have a ramped bolt. With a ramped bolt, it may not push the hammer all the way down to reset after every shot, either producing a dead trigger or a double, etc. The SSA, SSA-E, and SSF fair better with ramped bolts than our three gun triggers do, but they just weren’t designed for the ramped bolt.

With that said sir, if you would like to send us your SSF to check out we would be happy to do it. I hope this helps, anything you need
with any of our products let us know.

Just received an email from Geisselle.......

Typically if the SSAE has occasional doubles or triples or experiences hammer follow this is from a light hold and a soft press at the bench either shooting for accuracy at range or zeroing an optic. The greater recoil impulse of the 308’s makes it more susceptible to recoil induced malfunctions such as doubling or hammer follow instances. It can happen while standing as well but is more common while at the bench.

Hammer follow is when the trigger is being pulled again (due to finger and rifle movement while firing) but the timing is such that the hammer rides the bolt carrier home. The hammer actually falls faster than the BCG can travel to get into battery. The hammer moving with the BCG will cause the firing pin to protrude but will not place enough force upon the primer to cause ignition. This presents itself as a light strike / dimpled primer and a non-functioning trigger. The firearm will then need to be recharged to be put back into use.

Unfortunately since we have not tested with that rifle and there is no mil-spec for 308’s (there are a few more common patterns out there and then a ton of proprietary stuff) it’s difficult to know what else may be going on without having it in hand. If you are located in Canada we are unable to have you send the trigger in for inspection however this is a fairly common initial occurrence with the SSAE and 308’s. Getting tighter on the gun and more direct with the trigger press usually does the trick.

Thank you,

Nick

I have a Geissele SSAE that I ran in my NEA AR15 for 1500 rounds and now it is in my BCL 102 (200 rounds down the pipe) and no issues. FYI

I think the issue may be my extremely light hold on the rifle and light trigger press when shooting for groups.

Will try tightening up on the rifle next range trip...BTW Hornady 150 sst's and varget are producing right around 1 inch groups at 100 meters :d
