Gen 1 Glock 17 Value

I'd like to own a gen1 G17….just because. I would consider spending up to $500 for one in VG mechanical/cosmetic condition.

I just bought a gen 4 for 600 shipped with night sites, mind you it was stippled and trigger guard modded so that may reduce value for some, I personally really like it so it adds value to me... 775 is almost the cost of new

You must have lost your glasses...one guy made a comment about a price for a Gen 3-4, and it had been irreversibly modded...RTF G-22's a little over $500 are pretty common.

Who cares about the Gen 3 and 4? I wouldn't pay $400 for one of those. But I would be very tempted by a nice Gen 1 for $500 or a little more.

You seem to have the wrong mindset here. The people looking for Gen 1's don't care if they are a little slippery. Just like people shopping for a Colt SP1 couldn't care less that it doesn't have rails, or isn't the most accurate AR15 ever made. We aren't looking for wundershooters, we're looking to add a bit of history to our collections.
 
Prices comes from availability and demand.

Gen 1's could be considered a collector's item. I personally would not shoot the thing but would buy one in mint condition for $600 just for the sake of having it. There are not very many of these out there so price can certainly be around the 6/8 hundred bucks and more so if they are in great shape.

If you want a shooter you would not buy a gen1, like I said, collector value comes to play.

My humble opinion.

Well, considering the collection i have, i understand the concept your talking about..it just that gen 1's aren't that uncommon. They where a landmark concept (and ugly one true, but a game changer)when they came out in the 80's But they don't have a lot of historical value, and other then cosmetics, the design didn't change significantly until the gen 4, and even then it was more just redoing the frame mould then changing the mechanics.

From the sound of the OP he was looking for a shooter, not a collector, and based on the price the seller was asking, he was getting hosed. If i'm going to spend to much on a piece of history, it'll be a luger or a webly, not a glock. But that's just me, and it takes all kinds to row the boat.

Oh, i'd be happy to pick up an sp1, as the lack of rails is a good thing in my mind lol....and interesting history to boot. Cheers :)
 
Here's the thing, a true Gen 1 would have a ton of factory upgrades it needs done, but you probably won't get those for free now, so that will cost you money. Will it work without those upgrades, probably, but some of the upgrades are pretty damn important, I wouldn't run one without them. I'd say $400 would fair for that pistol. If it was new in box maybe $550-600
 
People are cheap ####s.

Mint Gen1's are very rare, so there's collector value.

However Glocks have seen some drastic changes since the very first Gen1's, mostly important safety changes. That's $$$ you'll have to spend to get it up to correct safety standards.
 
Isn't that the gun that's made of porcelain. I heard it doesn't show up on airport X-ray machines.
This one cop, McClane I think his name was, said it costs more than a head of airport security makes in a month!

A Glock is never going to be a collector item, in any generation, finish, configuration etc.

The last two posters are obviously mentally retarded, but seriously, $500 would be tops for a nice example with the original mags. Gen 1 mags are kinda unique in themselves. I'd love to have a complete Gen 1, but one has to be realistic when shelling out cash for a firearm that will only appeal to a small group of collectors. Glock was definitely a game changer in the firearms world with its polymer frame,and even blew H&K out of the water with this concept, so yeah...its earned its place in firearms history in that regard.
