Gen2 DA 50BMG stiff bolt-opinions needed

For adding info to the thread. Supposedly, a DA50 32" upper receiver exploded at an open door event in september last year in Rivière du Loup, Quebec.

An open day ended badly last Saturday at the shooting club of Rivière-du-Loup. The event aimed at informing and initiating people with pistol or rifle fire ended abruptly when a large caliber weapon exploded.
It was an open day that was taking place at the Rivière-du-Loup shooting club. The weather was lenient and many citizens were interested in the event.

"It went really well, in security. Everyone followed the rules. Well, unfortunately, at the end of the day, at the end of the initiation, the initiation activity was over and then there was unfortunately a weapon that exploded, "explains Alexandre Côté, experienced shooter who witnessed the scene.

And not just any weapon exploded: a .50 caliber weapon, a very large caliber. Three people were injured. But luckily, none was seriously.

For Sylvain Arbor, director of the Rivière-du-Loup shooting club, the event is not due to a lack of security, quite the contrary.

"Just to give you an example, normally, at the pistol shot, there is a shooting official for all the shots. While on Saturday, each of the shooters had an official assigned to him, "he explains.

A blow of fate that could have been much more dramatic.

Hmm. I got one of these with the ATRS lower as a complete gun a couple months ago. Haven't fired mine yet, no ranges around Edmonton that'll let you shoot them. Hopefully mine doesn't have this issue. Dunno how to tell until I shoot it though I guess.

Do you know if it was Gen 1 or Gen 2? And what ammo was used?

I've got 600+ rounds through my Gen 1 DA50 with the ATRS lower, using PMC and IMI ammo. Never tired any other ammo.

I have a bout 500 rounds through my Gen 2 with the ATRS lower on it, no mprblems what so ever. CBC, IMI, PMS, Hornady and handloads all work well.

Take a trip to Red Deer. Red Deer Shooting Centre has indoor ranges rated for 50bmg. The armorer was also very helpful when my bolt got stuck. Of course they also offered to sell me their 50bmg rifle from their store front lol

As long as Canada Ammo fixes the barrel problem I will be happy. I don't imagine they were too pleased with the contractor of their barrels either.

No I don't. Not sure why it is taking this long to resolve. Mossberg should be doing everything in their power to save their credibility.

Hey, thanks for the tip!

The barrels will have to be replaced and headspaced. I believe the grooves were so deep in some that no amount of polishing will work without enlarging the chamber to dangerous levels.
Alberta Tactical can replace barrels. Some barrels can be polished out. Mine did not. Hopefully shipping will be covered. About 90 dollars each way.

I was told by the service dept on the phone that once a solution had been worked out (which is strange, because i thought the new barrels were on the way) a return shipping label would be sent to me.
