I understand your point perfectly...but this is not my negative side of the story, this is exactly what happened. Why would you not want to know if a customer gets treaded like that, by any bussines or organisation. I have seen people literally complain on CGN about service received at stores, unhappy about product or services.guntech said:

I am in Thunder Bay. My cousins in Winnipeg all swear by Gene Gunning for their long gun work. However, as has already been stated, Gene has had health issues. In fact, he nearly died 18 months ago due to a serious head injury with brain damage, so it is lucky that he is even alive let alone working.
I cannot speak for any other gunsmiths in the Winnipeg area except for Joe Undiks. STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!! He has had a shotgun barrel of mine for nearly 3 years and I cannot get it back! A simple shorten 4 inches and install choke tubes that was promised in 4-6 weeks has resulted in a situation where I am convinced that I will never get it back. He rarely answers the phone and when he does he promises to ship it back to me, but it never happens. I contacted the RCMP to report "stolen property" but as a barrel is not a firearm, they will not even visit him.
I know that there are at least 2 other smiths in the Winnipeg area, and I would assume that they are in the yellow pages, but stay away from Joe.

Personally I like hearing about other's experiences with gun stores and smiths. Good and bad. Just because it's not the same experience that you have had at Gene's.....doesn't mean he isn't entitled to share his experience just as you are entitled to share yours. I don't think cz52 was expecting them to know all there is about his particular gun but he was probably expecting a little more courtesy. I would be too.

I can't say anything bad about Gene. He shortened the stock on my wifes o/u and did a great job. He fit a stock for my dads 721 remington (another nice job). He polished the bolt on it as well(nice job). He also fixed a norinco 22 semi that I bought new at the Brandon gun show(free of charge). Said it was covered under warranty. Fixed my old .303 . Fixed a stuck choke tube in my o/u. I would reccomend him to anyone. Just my opinion for what it is worth.

Your post is a one sided view of what happened. It is your perception. I am not saying you did not experience what you reported, but without the "other side" the whole story is not told.

Posting one sided complaints is not fair. You won't change my mind on this.
Posting here can do nothing to improve what you feel the level of service should be. It could certainly hurt the business, punishing it for the lack of service which you feel you received. You named, identified and made a one sided criticism of a single proprietor gunshop from behind your veil of internet anonymity. You chose not to bring your concern to the business. You chose instead to try to damage the business. Seeing as you identified the business, why do you not identify yourself with your name and location?
Wouldn't you ruin all the value if you make this thing work ?
If it's some rare bird because of what it is , I would think changing it would toilet the collector status of it .

I have simply posted something that has happened, same as others on GCN who had complaints about services provided to them; we've had complaints about the guy at the sports counter at Canadian Tire, that didn't seem to bother any one, nobody defended Canadian Tire. I make no criticism whatsoever of Gene's gunsmithing abilities; but I do have an issue with their "I don't care atitude" and them being not curteous. And unlike the larger corporations, the small bussineses do not have a customer service department.

Back to your Tokarev. Do not attempt to rebuild it! These guns were seconded from production due to problems discovered during an inspection sometime during the build. Usually it had to do with the firing pin channel being out of alignment. The word you see on the side means "Excercise". These guns should never be fired, they were not intended to be fired. There are very few people that familier with the design and construction of these guns to give you an correct assessment of it's serviceability. 7.62 Tok is a very hot pistol cartridge and will kill you if fired from a broken gun!!!
