General Dynamics Lightweight Medium Machine Gun

Part of what I think we aren't seeing here is that we've been fighting skirmishes and calling them wars. We completely dominate the enemy from the military standpoint in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq etc. So when we think about practical usage we fail to understand that there is still the possibility of fighting an actual war against a real enemy with real training and real equipment etc. Up-gunning suddenly becomes a viable solution when you consider things from that point of view. If your enemy is equipped with body armor that is capable of withstanding 7.62 then this tool suddenly becomes a real benefit... So is it going to be really useful against jerks in shirts and an AK? prolly not so much, but thats just what we've been dealing with for the last 15 years and its easy not to imagine anything else.

Personally

Some very valid points...

Fair enough. However, dwelling on possible warfare situations thst could arrise is what the Americans are good at. That's why they spend a #### load on their defense budget fOr weapon systems that really have no significance nowadays. I won't list the many projects they make that are not relevant for today's warfare as I'd fall asleep typing them. This is one reason that america fights debt accross the country. I do agree in some regards though to your point. It is handy to have a weapon system that offers features that mortars don't have. But I'm still on the GMG train. Canada would benefit more with the investment for more GMG's than anything.

.338LM is a bolt gun round - the .338 Norma can be used in a MG.
The rim on the LM round really does not lend itself to use in a semi-auto, or automatic weapon.

Its a neat concept - but the ammo weight is prohibitive for dismounts.
