I apologize if this is off topic, but it seems to apply more here than anywhere else. What kind of generator do you use / recommend? I bought a cheap Coleman 2500W 14 months ago and already it won't start!

had one not too long ago check the oil level they have a low oil snsor that kills the engine when its down to low (according to thier specs) and if they arnt perfectly level they wont start

as far as a good one the hondas are decent but nothing beats the old 20,000w + diesel genny's

I've got a 3000 watt coleman. It runs great! If I was gonna buy a new one though it would be a 2500 watt honda or yamaha.

Dave.

I don't use one my self, but my dad has a Honda that works like a charme. He bought it 2 years after the 98 ice storm from a guy who paid top $ for it after the crisis. I think he may have started it once or twice...sold it for half price to my dad. It still brings a smile to my face when I think about it today 8)

Honda's are great and I think now Yamaha's are as good or even better. I think the Yamaha 1000 model is actually rated more quiet than the Honda.

Jacky

I have a Mitsibushi which is very very good, but if I was to buy a new one it would be a Honda or a Yamaha. If you want them to last though make sure you CHANGE the oil REGULARLY.It only takes a few minutes but its so worth it.

Kubota

The only one to use would be a Kubota generator. They have the auto idle which is nice and can run all day on a tank of fuel. Nice and quiet as well

I have a Honda 1400 watt model . I use synthetic 10/30 oil in it & even with a load on it it is very quiet{ Honda says not to -It will void your warranty if something breaks -they recommend regular oil] I have had mine for 10 yrs no problems yet. Just make sure oil level is right up there every time you use it.

Got two of them given to me at work last year. All I had to do was give them tune ups.

Nikko's with Wisconsin Robin motors. 1 2400w and a 3400w.

Not top of the line but do the job.

I like the hondas as well, they take a beating , we use them on our portable fuel stations for logging camps to run the fuel pumps and you know those generators are taking a beating and running hard and the only problem we had all summer was someone broke the pullcord

Which one (what kind of power output) do you need to run a small freezer, or a water pump, plus a few lights, etc in case of emergency at the cabin etc?

I guess that would depend on how much your pump draws. 1000 watts would be plenty for the rest. It's probably a good idea to get one a little bigger than you expect to need so it isn't running at full load - and so it'll have the power to feed my house when I borrow it during an extended power outage here!

I use a honda 2500 it can run my fridge + T.V ect . Honda seems to be the most popular on Quadra where the power goes out from storms 8 or more times per winter, once it was out for over a week as over 200 trees blew down.
Hondas are more money but i think worth every penny.
