Hey nutz,

Anyone aware of some more cost effective Optilock Rings and Bases than the Sako/Tikka ones? I don't really want to drop $150 on branded ones.

Also, I'm mounting a Bushnell Elite 4200, what's the lowest I should go with the mounts? I think they come in low, med, high.

Thanks

There are Leupold rings that mount right on the dovetail that would be OK, but I would avoid the Millet brand ones. You can also get weaver bases that mount on the dovetail, then use whatever brand of ring you wanted...Burris Signature Zee rings work well...

What are you mounting the scope on?...a Tikka or Sako?. If it's a Tikka then the receiver is drilled and tapped for regular bases like Leupold or Weaver and regular rings will work. If its a Sako then there are several options as listed above including a Burris Std. base that will mount to the Sako Dovetail allowing the use of a standard style Burris or Leupold rings. Phil.

It's a TIKKA, I saw where it looked to be drilled and tapped but thought it might be for some other purpose since this is my first experience with that optilock rail. What's the point of having it on there if I can drop standard bases and rings on it? To get $ from guys like me? Thanks guys, great input!

Talley one piece rings are nice I have them on my T3. Solid rings for the price. Other option is Opti lock style I would look into Burris Signatures with the insert. I think the Burris rings are quiet underated.

The majority of Tikkas we mount wear Leupold STD rings and bases and we have never had a failure. Tikka gives you the option of using the parallel rails to mount their Optiloc system that is heavier and stonger...and in heavier calibers they may be a good idea. Also the Optiloc rings use plastic inserts that protect the scope body and eliminate the need for lapping but take a little extra time in setting everything up. Phil.
