i did some test this week end before bison hunting and i found out that the zastava action need a long tube and a very good eye relief.

it is for my wife and she didnt like 1.5-5x20 or 1-4x20.

the 2-7x33 didnt provide enough eye as came tunnel vision.

remember shooting in the winter is not the same.

what are the options you are thinking of?

i do not think a 2.5-8x36 will fit ...

Don't know what rings and bases you are using but a lot of manufacturers have extension rings and an extension front base.

My 350 RM with a Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33mm and my 308 with a Leupold FX-II 6x36mm use front extension bases.

My 458 WM with Leupold FX-II 2.5x20mm uses a front extension ring.

My 416 RM with Nikon Omega 1.5-4.5x20mm uses standard bases and rings.

Phil, find a VX-II (not VX-2) 3-9x40mm... they have a long tube, good eye relief at 3X and a lock ring for the eyepiece.

The VX-III 2.5-8 has about as long an eye relief as you can find. With extension front base plus an extension ring,
you can mount that on practically any long action out there and make it work well. Better optical quality as well. EE.

thank you for all the answers and tips.

im old fashion guy so im using weaver bases with QRW rings as it may happen to open sights may be needed.

extension rings or not the issue will be of course the extra layers needed when you are on a winter fashion clothing ...

with regular rings the 2.5-8x36 is not working.

some of the older B&L Balvars (made in Japan) had long barrels and pretty good eye relief. They were designed by Aikins iirc and were very good.... but heavy. There was also a fixed 4x fwiw They would be around 3.75 - 4” but not EER
