I have read a number of times that a scope has a generous eyebox and I'd like to know how /if you can tell that by the specifications. I have a Bushnell Elite 6 x24x scope on my 308 and I can tell you that it does NOT have a generous eyebox once its turned up to 24x.
It likely has something to do with the fact that I put bases on the rifle as apposed to a rail and the scope should be adjusted back a little further but that aside how can I select a new scope by the specification and know that I am going to have a generous eyebox. It could also be my inexperience that makes me bob and weave until I get a somewhat decent site picture.

I'd like to get into the long range game but the set-up I have now needs work.

This might sound stupid, but I have found most scopes above 20x are much worse at top magnification settings, but generally good a couple X below max. To compensate for this I go a little higher with my magnification. Sightron 8-32 was usable on a bench at top power, but below 28 or so it was much better. Takes away a bit from the low end mag, but the 32x was better at 24x than the 6-24. Or maybe I'm crazy...

Some brands are worse than others, elite being worse for eyebox at top end. I have used 6-24 and 4.5-30's and found the same issue. The 30 was better below max.
