Stopped by a local apple orchard on tues. Asked the fella who owned it. What he did with his windfalls? I asked him if I could buy some. I wanted to use them for baiting deer. He said I could have all I wanted for free! He didn't use mac's. I went back today and picked up about a hundred pounds worth. This nice gent said next year I should come a month earlier with a pick up. None of them will be rotted then. After the hunt. I will stop by with a bag of venison and a bottle of wine to thank him again. It's sure is nice to feel the genoursity of others. Like that. Especially when he is in the business to make $$$ and wouldn't accept any. Any of you guys have any experiences like this?

Dave.

That is exactly what we as hunters should do. Take the time to talk to the land owners a little more than just the day or two before the season opener and not to be seen for another year until then. We actually were talking to one new property we have for deer hunting this year, whenever we were up in the summer we popped in to say hello. He actually made it known to us that he gave permission to a couple of others a few years ago, and that was the last time he had heard from them. That kind of irked him a wee bit. For the last I dont know how many years we make it a point to give some of the harvest (or at least offer) to the land owners, and a few bottles of wine just in time for Christmas. Most love to just have us there to get rid of the quarry, but we believe they deserve something in return. Good call Triton!!

One day duck hunting

A few years back we asked a fellow with a big duck slough on his land if we could hunt. He said sure if we stopped by after the hunt to let him know how things went. So we did. He insisted we stay for lunch and his wife laid out a huge spread. It was great day of hunting topped off by an awesome lunch and wonderful hospitality. He had never met us but trusted us completely. My only regret is I haven't been able to get back there and hunt again.

The world needs a lot more of these people. He didn't hunt but totally understood why others do. Big dancing banna cheer:dancingbanana:

You were not "baiting" deer......

You were feeding the poor unfortunate animals to better their lives..

You are correct! Sometimes "I KNOW SPEAKA THE GOOD ENGLISH":p Those poor deer barely have enough to eat! I'm glad I could help them.:dancingbanana:
