This from Kate:
George Digweed wins his 20th World Championship in style at the World Compak Sporting Championships held at the Olympic shooting ranges in Nicosia ,Northern Cyprus.

The three day Championship, consisted of 200 targets shot in rounds of 25, with 75 being shot on the first two days and 50 on the final day.

One target behind Italian Marco Battisti after the first day after recording a 74/75, George drew level on day two with 75/75 and secured victory with a faultless display on the last morning, giving victory to him by one target from the Italian and three from Frenchman Christophe Auveret. 199/200 is the highest score to ever be shot in the World Compak Championship and Digweeds World Record score of 200/200 set in France in 1997 still remains unequaled.

The win gives Digweed from Sussex the notable distinction of being the first person ever to be ranked World Number One at both International Sporting disciplines at the same time. Digweed also teamed up with Jamie Brightman and Cheryl Hall to take Gold for Great Britain in the team event from France and Portugal

Speaking after the event, Digweed said he was very pleased with the victory, especially as the conditions were not favourable to shoot big scores, as temperatures on most days at the ground topped 36 degrees, and with a lot of wind in the afternoon.

This result tops another good year for George, which has seen him win two Pan African Championships, two European Championships and the World Cup, alongside a host of other successes

He will be at the World English Sporting Championship at Galt, next year.

I don't understand. How can the number one ranked guy in both Intl sports fail to appear in either Olympic Finals?

Because he's not the number one ranked shooter in trap or skeet? Compak sporting and FITASC are competely different from Olympic trap, double trap and skeet. As far as I am aware Digweed does not shoot any of those disciplines, though no doubt he would do very well.

FYI he won the UK Skeet championship after a very liquid night and no clothes in his hotel room! He has shot an American teal target at a measured 130 yards last year and I have seen him shoot one at 115 yards in R.I.! He shot a Make-a-break from the hip and did not miss a target.

FYI, FITASC gave the ISU now ISSF Olympic Skeet and Trap. FITASC Sporting, Trap, Compak etc are the non-Olympic shooting games whereby EVERYONE can compete without qualifying by winning a GP. You can be shooting with George or Richard Faulds, just by paying to enter!

The World FITASC Sporting is in Spain next year just some 2 hours North of Madrid. You can view the club 's website from last years Euro: http://www.fecaza.com/euro2011/index.html

You must be a member of CNSCA to be able to compete.

George has lost some 60 pounds last winter. He stopped his weight regime for the shooting season. He will resume his weight loss program this week. He does not need to see his feet to know where they are pointing and where he will break the target.

You can tell he's a big guy when you see how small the gun looks relative to his hands and body. My Krieghoff with 30 inch. barrels looks monstrous in my hands and I'm 6 feet tall.

I think he only misplaced it as he seems to have found it.

I see George a few times a year. Trust me, he lost probably more than sixty last winter. He had a kingsized clothing pin holding his shirts tight againt the body in South Africa this March. There was over a foot of fabric folded up! He has since made new shooting shirts.

He has two sets of barrels. The chokes are secret and trust me are not f/f. The second set has more open chokes. He does use psychologie on his competion, so let everyone guess. He will shoot a dropping target as close to the ground as possible during shoot-offs! This makes a few a bit nervous, as in the second set of shoot-offs while both tied at 25 and now a miss and out at the Euro Compak. It rattled the young Hungarian.
