I would sandplast it, and either powdercoat it, or chrome plate it, take off my shirt and put on a work vest and jump on my Harley!
 
If I end up repainting it does anyone offer paint thats correct?

In short, no. There are model paints that are the correct colour but model paint doesn't cut it IMHO. Although there are variations on original helmets the infantry used what they termed "field grey" although it wasn't actually grey but kind of a dark washed out olive drab. You could probably get the model paint and get a paint store to match the colour with a hard enamel.
 
Well after some acetone which killed the LHS decal I carefully shaved the paint over the RHS and it is 100% Norwegian under it. The green paint was applied by the Norwegians so ugly colour or not it's not Bubba.

Also from what I can tell from the RHS bare emtal came up with no other colours in between so looking like there is no grey under the green.

Going to try some more but almost at a cross roads. Clean the remaining brown paint off and leave it, or find a Norwegian decal for the opposite side.

Strip it/blast etc and paint it the best grey I can and Decal it back to German.
