Help me out guys, I would like to return my 8mm mauser to as close to original as I can, but I'm not sure exactly what I have. My father in law gave this to me and said his uncle took it from a dead german soldier in ww1 and brought it home. From there the stock has been cut down. On the top of the receiver is stamped amberg 1910 and on the side what looks like kax 98, although I believe it's kar 98. Here's a couple of pics, please let me know if you need more info.

Assuming that the barrel has not been cut, you are going to need a complete stock set with all related hardware.
Wouldn't want to suggest that this would be impossible to find, but it likely isn't going to be easy.

You have an M98 mauser ,but not a Kar(biner) m98. The model numbers and history have escaped me know but it is all on the web for your researching pleasure.
The barrel on yours is tapered not stepped as per the later model M98. There may be furniture to retrofit that vintage, but it may be scarce. If it is a truth 1910 it is probably a .323" barrel bore as opposed to the prior.318" meaning it will handle the JS ammo. I would be careful, it may be better to go our and find an M98 clean milsurp configuration than trying to retrofit what you have now,.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. That's great info, as I said I'm not too sure as to what I have so researching it on the internet has been a challange at best. I'm more about the current sporting rifles and shotguns then the old military rifles.

Google Kar98a.

That's exactly what it is. Thanks, that helps a lot, now I'll see if I can find a stock for it. Not that I am going to sell it but how rare or common is this rifle, what would it be worth to someone.

Neither the rifle or the stock for it will be common. Right now it is only worth the sum of its parts, $250+. Both the wood and metal parts may or may not be available from Numrich in the US. It's a good site to visit and they will have an exploded diagram of all of the parts you will need. Understand though, even if you find all of the parts you're looking for, the rifle will still be a mixmaster and may be worth less than you paid for all of it. As you were gifted the rifle, you should be OK. Nice rifle, if you sell it, you won't have long to wait for a buyer if your price isn't unreasonable.
