Newb alert.... this is probably a stupid question... I've only had a gun for about a year and have only started reading & researching guns online for a month or two....

I would like to find a Luger P08 with either the SS lightning bolts and the skull stamped into it, AND a lengthened barrel so it's not prohibited.

Are my chances pretty much zero?

If there is a chance, where would I look?

I was thinking about searching in the US for one with the German stamp(s), then contacting a gunsmith and arranging the barrel replacement to happen down there, and then have it shipped to me here.

Anything SS is a quagmire of rampant fakery, buying from someone you don't know is just asking to be ripped off.

There are restricted Lugers in Canada in 9mm, many of them original, all of them pricey.

It's not about who was issued what. It's that they just didn't mark then like that. Early on when property marks were applied to some guns, the waffen SS took their rifles from the Heer. And by the time the SS was able to procure their own, property marks were phased out for the most part. Some very select ranges of rifle have a single rune S. But nothing on pistols.

By Chance, are you looking for a Chrome Plated SS Honour Guard K98 complete with full ceremonial lightning bolts and skulls in 24K Gold engraved from muzzle to buttplate - all metal and wood engraved; and a Chrome Plated and Triple Spiked M35 SS Double Decal Helmet, lined with White Siberian Fox Fur as well?

Many SS units had FN P35 also known as HP35, made in occupation Belgium. Later in the war, from around 1943 on, many had P38, but there were also many of the WW1 C96 Mauser pistols still on on issue.

As noted, NO P08 was ever marked with SS runes. Later on in the war, getting captured with anything like an SS identifier was a certain death sentence, especially on the Eastern Front.

Only on the outside...

Dhd P08's are met with considerable skepticism, but there are legit Dhd holsters including period photographs of such.

Most Dhd P08's I've seen are of the inverted lazy s variant.... This doesn't mean anything, just an observation. Probably the same clown with the same stamp.

Most P08's are prohibited by =<5mm - due to barrel length.

Exceptions:
Navy Luger - WWI vintage production
Artillery Luger - WWI vintage production
Most variants in 30Mauser seem to have a 4" barrel (Swiss P08's, American Eagle, and Commercial models).
Dlask or similar replacement barrel added - used to re-classify the P08 from Prohib to Restricted thanks to a slightly longer barrel.

I am sure when they set the barrel lengths 'they' meant to disarm Canadians and to rid society of the majority of 'evil' P08's.

CanadianAR is right about SS markings on weapons/holsters.

I love this place - so much info!

I should have gotten my RPAL and some hand guns sooner - now I am in a rush to get my RPAL (course is in a couple weeks), finalize my wish list and purchase them before the election. So I will be asking a lot more stupid questions over the next few months. Thanks for the info, especially about the white Siberian fox fur.
