Hi,

Before I list it for sale, I have a question regarding the Mauser I have that was at one time a supposed "Sniper" version. The receiver is drilled and tapped as is the bridge beside the bolt release. I've seen pictures online of period correct scopes mounted in the same position but as one of the holes is drilled through one of the eagle/swastika proof marks I'm doubting the authenticity now.

I bought it locally in the lower mainland from a sponsors store at the same time I purchased my Mosin M1891 (that was incorrectly described/mis-sold to me.)
After I discovered all that, you'll understand my apprehension in believing all that I was told about this rifle. can any of you shed a little light on this so I can sell it with the correct information.

Cheers,
Sean

Umm...no idea to be honest. I thought maybe it was someone's attempt at tidying up a scruffy looking stock.
More pics added to the OP

Wood hacked out around barrel stub, flat machined on bolt handle and re-numbered, drilled and tapped in a non standard pattern for a military mauser but the spacing looks the same as on my husqvarna mauser and FN mauser sporters and ones I've seen scoped in civilian hands. And to boot THROUGH an inspection stamp. NOT an ex sniper. It's a complete hackjob. I concur with gaff. $300-400 at tops, it's a bubba jobbed rifle.

Yup. Sadly nothin special.

Not a sniper ++++

There were some authentic snipers that had mounts placed at similar positions as the mount holes on your rifle - but these would be drilled/tapped and soldered - no evidence of soldering.

The other give away is 'ar' never made sniper rifles - other than the zf41 variant which had a completely different mount.

To get decent money back on this rifle you could make a sniper clone - but would always be incorrect as it is an 'ar' rifle or a good machinist could plug the holes, but the inspection stamp would still be screwed...

It looks like a few of the serial numbers are matching. Perhaps it was a legitimate bolt mismatch at one point before the bolt was ground, re-numbered and then drilled and tapped.

Doesn't look like a refurb to me - just an unfortunate victim of the infamous bubba. :(

Good heavens, re-size your pics.

Unfortunately, as the posters above have said, not a "sniper". Could be a good old shooter though, so not all is lost.

Thanks for the help/advice guys. My gut told me the salesman fed me a BS sandwich after the Mosin debacle. That's one store I'll never deal with again.
Ah well, guess I sell at a loss then! :(

This local store has an amazing reputation and I'm shocked to hear about this.

That is all. Any other disclosure is not for me to give out, but really they need to know about this somehow because this is far from the norm, unless this is a new salesperson. If it is, he is going to trash their glittering reputation if this is all true.
