Hi All.-

Anybody have an idea how much is a neutralised WWI German MG 08/15 Machine Gun in very good condition worth at present?

Mg 08/15

Here is mine...It was captured by 5CMR 1500 Metres east of Loos on Jan 14 1918.8 of the enemy were killed by the raiding party and two men were awarded the MM for this action.2 Germans were also wounded. Not sure what they're worth but I was offered 1500 by a guy and I decided to keep it...neat piece of history....Yes it is deactivated.

On mine, spring and spring cover on left receiver side are missing.

Any idea where I can find these parts?

In very nice condition, but, to much weld.

I,ll look your up as I have a copy of the 1920 war trophy list...2500 MG08/15 WERE OFFICIALLY BROUGHT BACK AS WAR TROPHIES and were distributed among towns and individuals...stay tuned I,ll get back with your info....M.

Your MG 08/15 is listed as being captured by 18th West Ont Battalion but it is stroked out and listed as a 25th Battalion capture.Unfortunately the date and site of capture is unlisted which is somewhat unusual.the dun was originally donated to the town of Bagner Saskatchewan.

I wonder...did we use them in combat? Otherwise why mark it?

for whatever reason it was VERY common....(maybe it was regulation to mark captured guns?)

I have seen many 08 maxims and 08/15s and almost all were marked by the unit that captured them...sometimes by painting the info on the water jacket

Thanks! Lastmag....Info very much appreciated!!!:)

If you captured a forward position with a MG 08/15 intact and ready to fire, why not keep it there instead of trying to bring in a Vickers or Lewis gun.

I would imagine this was common practice for both sides.
