Considering the expertise here, I would very much welcome an opinion on these. So far I have been informed that these saw service, on the German side in early WWI whilst the German sniper war machine ramped up to meet the service need. The optics clarity is superb.

Hitzy thanks for the input. There must be someone here who knows something about these. In the Carl Zeiss world they are quite famous as the first type of scopes but my Google search results are varied. Mark

Does anyone have this book? Apparently it has some detail on these two early scopes.
Thanks in anticipation.

Somewhere I have an uncoated 2 1/4x (if memory serves) prewar german scope that came with a Newton rifle and in a Noske mount. Despite it being uncoated it provided a beautiful image and when I researched it years ago one individual commented that the image colour, contrast and clarity was due to the fact that some of these earlier scopes employed triplet lenses approaching apochromatic correction. IDK how true .. but this uncoated and quite old scope has a remarkable image.

With the cool factor, I have to ask. Were these angled lenses and if so, was that because of the technology at the time, or better to keep your head on? I'm guessing technology, but I wondered for a minute
