Getting a moose licence after the draw?

Well never thought this would happen but apprently I'm moose hunting this year. Buddy of mine drew a bull tag in his group for WMU 48. Now the last 2 years I haven't applied for the draw as it seemed pointless me doing it the 3-4 years prior. Now that his group has a tag, am I able to pick up a licence after the draw has happened?

Just a weird situation and am not sure how it works in that regard.

I'm not sure how that would work. You can still buy a licence and you'll be calf only, but 48 has a draw for calves as well, so you may not be able to hunt in that unit.
 
I missed the draw deadline this year and I haven't bought my license yet. I'm pretty sure I did this once before and bought my license afterwards. I don't hunt in a WMU with a calf draw though so when I buy mine I expect to get a calf tag. I'm sure it will work the same for 48 though except that the seal portion of yours will be blank.

With only a month to go before the season, I will be buying my license at CTC or some other retail license issuer rather than online and trusting them to mail it to me on time. You might consider going that route yourself especially if you're hunting the archery season.

In order to party hunt every member of the group has to have a valid licence. In this case, his licence wouldn't be valid in WMU 48 because he didn't enter the draw, and he didn't apply as a member of the group that drew the tag.

I think the only way to get a definitive answer is to put a call in to the MNR.

I think you're getting your game seal confused with your moose license. Though they come attached to each other, they are separate documents. An Ontario license to hunt moose is valid in any WMU in Ontario where there is a season for moose regardless of whether the holder entered a draw or not. When the OP buys his license it will be valid. The seal attached to it will be no good in 48, but he can still hunt because his buddy got a bull tag.

Hunting moose in WMU 48 is not like a controlled deer hunt. You do not need to apply to a draw to hunt moose there, you just need to be hunting with somebody who did and was successful in the draw. The only thing different in WMU 48 is that you need to enter a draw to get a calf tag, and you must report your kill.

Also, the moose tag draw is only about allocating tags, not about regulating party members. There is absolutely nothing in the regulations that says you must hunt only with the hunters you applied as a group with and that nobody else can join the party after the draw.

The moose hunting rules for these WMUs include calf tag allocation and mandatory hunter reporting.

This..... Correct on all counts for Ontario
 
I went out and bought mine today. I decided to go to Service Ontario to get it. There were 3 within reasonable driving distance of me. 2 were operated by government and only open Mon-Fri so I went to one that is operated under a private sector contract. I waited in line for 20 minutes only to be told that they didn't sell moose licenses and I'd have to go to a 'full service' office, meaning one of the government operated ones. I asked if I could get it at a retail license issuer and they said no. Fortunately, I didn't believe them and went to my plan B, a CTC about 5 minutes away, and bought my license. You should be able to do the same idunno1987.
