I just took and passed my CFSC for non-restricted long guns. I grew up hunting and now that my son is going on 7 I want to start getting him into it before he just thinks guns are evil things and only exist in video games. I was charged for some BS on December 18th 2006 and as part of the sentence received 18 months probation and a 5 year firearm prohibition under s. 100 of the Criminal Code.

Now it has clearly been 5 years since it was issued(6 years, 7 weeks or so). But did that order start from the day it states or the day I was off probation?

Also on the application it asks the question "16. c) During the past five (5) years, have you or any member of your household been prohibited from possessing any firearm?" Do I have to answer yes to this as DURRING the past 5 years I was, or no because it has expired.

Thanks to any input any of you can throw in on this.

I would call the CFC to ask about what exactly the question of "last five years" means. If the prohibition has expired, I don't think they have grounds to deny you either way, and I'd fight any CFO in court if they denied you. If the justice system didn't ever want you to own guns again, the judge would have issues a life-time ban. He didn't and it's not up to the CFO to start making up reasons to withhold licenses. Good luck.

Thanks, I was thinking of calling them but dont want to open a can of worms for myself. It is the government after all. A 5 year ban is a standard thing they give everyone now a days. Over 200,000 a year get it.........in 2004 it was 50,000 then in 2006 they just went nuts with it and it jumped up to almost 200,000.............

If i do get denied I plan on asking for it in writing and getting a lawyer, im not asking for a AA-12 cause guns are cool. I just want a nice duck gun and a sporting rifle for hunting.

Well, the application also has a spot for you to explain why you answered 'yes' to any of the questions. There is where you need to explain in as much detail as possible. Just an FYI do not put that you were charged for some "BS" on your application.

What is it with the low post newbs asking really leading questions the past couple of weeks? lol

I was just looking for some insight from members that have maybe gone though the same thing. I dont want this to drag on for a year if I dont have to.

Newb to the forum and newb to firearms are different things aswell. Ive been a member of the hunting community in my area since I was 9, and am not some Call of Duty newb.

the way i read it, you'd answer yes. you were prohibited from posessing them withing the last 5 yrs, regardless of when it started or ended.
