Not sure if this is the right choice....lol
Getting back into PPC under pressure from other club members and friends. I dabbled in PPC back in the late 80s but have long since got rid of my gear and gun.
Seems hard to find used equipment or a revolver ? Surely there must be hundreds sitting around gathering dust somewhere....lol.

I own a 686 and a Dan Wesson in stainless. Dont really want to beat them up or wear holster marks on them....lol
So ya I will look for a reasonable used PPC gun or a model 10 or 14

I see about 5 PPC revolvers a year in the EE, generally in the $600-900 range. I get the sense that the guns were all built 20+ years ago and we are just passing around that generation of guns.

Exactly !!..... I used to see some old PPC rigs listed but not lately ?

I understand that it would be a custom gun, I was curious what are the common guns people customize? Or is there a ppc standard gun that most people use??

I think the most common one is the Model 10, that's what I have. Then whatever S&W revolver in 38 on the K frame replaced it. Also some S&W L frames. Someone that is more serious into PPC would know better.

I've seen a variety of guns at PPC matches, ranging from the classic customized revolvers to various semis and modern revolvers. The 686 is popular, but anything but a six-shooter will be a PITA for PPC. Some folk can notch up wonderful scores with a 1911. And using an optic is getting to be a thing for some of the older shooters, although I think that has to be scored as a different division.

Pretty sure if you use a pistol like 1911 and not a revolver that is a different match ? was not aware of optics being allowed ?.....but then I dont really know the rules.

We use autos and revolvers in our ppc matches, the revolvers have a clear advantage because we shoot to 50yrds in our ppc matches while our duty matches only goes to 25yrds.

For the big NS match we usually send guys to,
Any center fire revolver or center fire pistol, as defined by Rule 3.3 of the
Canadian Police Combat Association, for Practical Police Combat (PPC)
Competition, will be allowed.
1x Red dots are also allowed.

I know they have an overall winner, and class listings as well, but I'm not sure what defines each group. I only shoot at the club level, and generally we don't worry what you shoot.
Just no .22s.
I shoot a 45 1911 and I see glocks, czs, norincos, and cartridges from 9mm, 40sw, 357sig(!), ect.

As you can tell, your club will have their own ways of doing things, I know some clubs only go to 25yrds, so for 99% of the shooting an auto would be fine.

I know NS match details don't help you in Ontario, but getting out to a match at your club will let you know how things are being done now.

Okayshooter on here also shoots ppc and was at the big ns match, probably knows more about the class break downs, but I think people are shooting for the overall score winner most times.

Lastly, our matches have 2x as many people as when I started a couple years ago. Seems all shooting sports are getting a population boost. Great!

I didn't realise PPC is still popular. Any clubs in the Ottawa area shooting PPC? I have S&W model 10 from 1962 I would love to shoot.

Peerless

yes I dabbled in PPC, found it boring and geriatric in nature, and while walkers might not have been present, canes and walking sticks were, along with 5 gallon pails.

maybe an sks and blasting at paint cans is more in line with your kind of fun? :stirthepot2:

I like ppc(although I wouldn't turn my nose up at any competitions), all ages at our range, no walkers yet though. Good weekly practice getting dialed in for accuracy.
Buckets being better for collecting brass than getting them precious things lost in the grass.
