Ya, I was surprised too, and work lots with metal.

I bet if he held it by the skinny end it would've bent too far right away

The trick to it is getting the feel for how hard to swak it ,different metals and barrel profiles chang the force that is needed . Thin walled tubing will dent( shot gun barrels).

That's how my J.M showed me how to tweak my offsets when running rigid conduit....to get rid of dog leg.

I've done a few over the years with good success. I've not tried the smack-log, using blocks and pressure instead.

Wow, I would have said that barrel was done!

With that much bend and restraightening, one has to wonder how the metallurgy was affected ? Barrels have become really flimsy in the interest of light weight, is my experience.
