Hey so I found a thread on the net for almost 6'years ago here on cgn about what guys were doing to there vz with a 18.6 inch barrel to make it seem shorter, some guys were getting fake brakes put on and then porting the barrel, others were moving front site posts back, fake cans. Wondering what people have done and to post some pics. I thought it was legal to cut the barrel down, thread a brake on and weld it so the total length was still 18.6 inches but I guess I'm not allowed, booooo.

Whats wrong with the longer barrel? It's better for range. I like my 18.6 barrel. To me a 18.6 barrel is standard, anything smaller seems compact to me. Appreciate your barrel. It's awesome. Our Vz's are nice and light weight even with an extra 4 inches. The Vz 58 is a magnificent weapon even better with a standard barrel. I wouldn't mess with it beyond moving the sight post back but when you do that you gotta make sure you keep it straight and centered perfectly.
Mine is chambered in 7.62x39. What's yours?

What I would like to see CSA do, or someone do, is make aluminum magazines like this one for the 5.56m m version just like in this picture of a 5.56mm Vz 58 prototype. Notice now the barrel length is really long for it. I've, since my last photo, switched back to factory magazines because AR magazines dont always work well enough but I stll hate the look of these plastic see though magazines and this V58 with an aluminnum magazine looks great.

They also had a 7.62x51mm prototype of the Vz 58.

Sorry for high jacking the thread just drunk and posting #### again.

I agree, a few inches shorter, why not the factory 16 eh? Those silly laws. It does look goofy having that skinny pencil barel out there with big ol sight post on the end of it. Looks even goofier when you put a brake on the end too.

On top of looking a bit funny, an 18.6 inch barrel is unnecessarily long for the 7.62x39 cartridge, still, going to the standard length of 15.4" is hardly worth losing Nonrestricted status IMO.

I've been searching for a steel mag for the VZ 5.56 for a while, I haven't found anything yet. I too would line up to buy them, the cheap polymer mags have worn down very quickly, and I'm not impressed overall. I'm fine with it being pinned to 5 if I don't have to use an adapter that a gunsmith would need to modify for my gun.

yeah, I don't think its allowed here , its allowed in the US.

once upon a time I was going to put a fake can but eventually got to love the length and even attached a long flash hider on it to make it even longer .

I'm not even sure if those factory magazines are polymer. They're just straight up plastic. Bulky and ugly. CSA makes new aluminum magazines for their 7.62x39 verson and since a prototype aluminum 5.56 magazine exists, then why not make that instead of the cheap and ugly looking plastic mag. I used AR magazines in my Vz 58 for awhile but the AR magazines are not anywhere near as reliable as the factory magazines so I switched back. The AR magazines are also unreliable in holding the bolt open on the last round turning the Vz into AK style.

I just now looked over my CSA magwell adapter again after typing out that post. installed it on the gun and couldn't help notice pushing bolt hold open manually is very stiff. I took it out, greased it and put it back and now its smooth. This may very well be why it wan't holding the bolt open. I think I'm going to give it another chance. I mean, I paid almost $100 for it so may as well use it. The gun does look 110% better with the AR magazines.
