Getting into 3 gun

it can be done
id start with an ar mag well mod and run 10 round pistol mags
maybe replace the rear sight with a bc tac rail and red dot
besides changing the stock there is not much else you can do
its a very heavy choice and the irons are usually sighted for 100m and up far less than you will be shooting in 3 gun so aim low or replace rear sight with a peep

No use modifying a SKS and spending as much as an entry level AR, just to try and be competitive with a non competitive platform.
Bigger concern is to make sure you have ammo that is suitable for the targets at your range.
Steel core ammo is usually not allowed if there are steel targets to be engaged.
Go shoot a match with the gear you have, HAVE FUN and learn the game, talk with others as to what gear you should look into, and save up for the gear you want.
No temporary band aid solutions.
They end up costing you at least twice as much in the long run.

If I can shoot a bolt gun in 3gun, you can shoot with a SKS.
