Getting into reloading

I don't think any of the major manufacturers make a bad piece of equipment and you should be able to turn out perfectly acceptable ammo on any of it or with any combination. Much of the comments, I suspect, are based on personal taste or brand loyalty.

I got started with a Lee Loader. That lasted a while and I then bought an RCBS kit. Still have most of it.

So, buy a basic kit and see where it leads you.

Before that however, buy a reloading handbook (same comments as above apply) and get some idea of what the bits and pieces do and are required for.

I had the benefit of learning on an older RCBS Rockchucker single stage and a Lyman turret press plus I checked out many presses on display in large sporting/hunting goods stores when visiting Houston.
All of the "Cast Steel" presses were good some were better due to ergonomics, build quality and design.
I chose the Redding equipment for my personal preferences through positive reviews and advice from experienced reloaders.
To find your personal preference try to gain some hands on experience with an experienced reloader, you will find reloaders to be very helpfull and willing to share their experience.
You are wise to start by reading reloading manuals Lymans, Speer, Hornady and a few others are good books to start with.

Does anybody have thoughts on the "smart reloader" line of accessories?

I think I'm going to get a Breech Lock Press, and RCBS Uniflow Powder measure. Other components I'm still up in the air on. Haven't decided what dies to get yet but like the quick change bushing idea so settings are "saved" on the breech lock. If this is a bad choice... let me know! I'm not doing any major case sizing so don't think I'll pay extra for the cast version.

The ABC's of reloading has been a great buy so far. Saves posting some questions on here!
 
WSS Winnipeg had the Lee Kit on sale with the Breech Lock press so I picked one up. I will likely upgrade parts along the way but am now on my way! I also picked up some RCBS dies for my -06 and will start with loading 150 gr SST's in Federal brass over CCI primers and IMR 4350. If anyone has some recommendations for this combo I'm all ears! After I get a "normal" load figured out for this caliber I'm going to take advantage of my new setup and work up some 110 grain vmax! One friend asked why I wanted to reload with the amount of good factory ammo out there... 110gr @ ~3400 fps seems like a pretty good reason!

The lyman handbook has proven to be an excellent addition to the ABC's book and online material.

I also should note that the 3 gentleman behind the gun counter on Friday were all friendly and helpful. They shared some advice from personal experience and seemed genuinely interested in my endeavor. Redding dies and Speer 125 gr TNT were not in stock but going through the lyman book and picking the brains of the gentleman working I've found something that will work! (if anyone knows where I can get the dies or speer tnt's let me know!)
