So I'm new to AR's and I don't exactly know their optimal range. So I don't know what optic would give me the best of short and longer distances. I've looked into trijicon acog, reflex, and EOTech. I'm looking for someone who has had experience with these types of sights and your opinion on them. Let me know what you think is best. Thanks very much!

I wont BS you. I dont own any of those rds. Personally unless you serve or want to show off, you can spend alot less on a rds and still shoot. I know that battery life and weight is an ossue for some, with your listed rds. What distance will you be shooting?
IMO, if you only shoot indoors, buy a trs-25 and with the saved money, buy more bullets or shooting lessons.
Atleast the trs-25 will swap to other guns and not look silly. Yes Im cheap and bias but atleast Im honest.
I do know from personal experience, if you're going to use a dot retical, try to get the smallest moa you can if you shoot more than 50yds and group sizes matter to you.
If the dot covers a quarter of your target at 100 yds, how can you get tight groups? Plus it will only get worse at farther distances.
I really like my HD7 because of the small dot size, 4 reticals to pick from and $300 or less bucks.
I know they have had issues but I havent had any with mine.

I appreciate the no bs. I learnt with my little 22/45 lite that's it's worth buying quality. I fist bought a cheap little browning reflex sight and it broke instantly with the first visit to the range. I'm not looking to buy something uber expensive but I don't want junk either. I appreciate the feedback and I'm going to check out that trs25! Thanks!

About $1,000 would be ideal. I'm not sure what an AR's ideal range is. Can they go out to 300 and 400 yards? I'm looking to do short range and long range applications.
Where in Ontario are you shooting restricteds at 400 yards? I only ask because I want to go.

I have an Eotech and LOVE it but I've only shoot out to 100 yards. Wouldn't use it for much more than that without a magnifer. Have not shot the others.

I see... I'm talking about Sharon if I can pick up one of the shares the club is selling off.

The Eotechs 1 MOA dot is nice and precise but even with a 600-700 dollar magnifier it may not be enough. The Trs25 is a great cheap red dot for sure. Pick up one and a scope if you want to reach out to 400 yards. I use my AR for 100 yards and under, I use other rifles for 100 plus. My 2cents any way. Good luck.

Ps. What is Sharon's longest range and do they allow guest?

Thanks! I've been pretty impressed by some trijicon acog's I've seen so I think I will go with that since it's my primary rifle (so far). The longest range is 300 yards and you can go as a guest of a member. It's an equity club so be ready to spend $2500-$3000 for a share. You can go on a Saturday till 3pm to check out the facilities.

Viper pst is around 600. With optics the more you spend the more you get. I'm sure they all work but what about dropping your rifle. Will it hold zero

Wow you're lucky to be able to drop 7-10k on shooting. Sounds like money isnt an issue so yes buy the best. I just hope you're one of those guy who learns how to use it and not just flash it!

I rather not drop so much but this sport it's hard not too. My method of thinking is rather than not being happy with what I have, just get good quality the first time. And the investment for the club isn't bad since it's equity so I can get it back if I were to sell.

Vortex Viper 4-16x44 is all you'll ever need. @$600-650 it gives you the 4x for short range and the 16x can take you out as far as you'd like to go with an AR. Nice clear glass and adjustable target turrets to boot. Buy once and don't look back.

I have a 1-4x, plan on 25-100m targets but sometimes I will take in the 300m range as well. rds not good enough for me.

I just bought the bushnell 1-4 throw down lever PLC with a PERP mount QD 30mm to use on my AR15/ su16F

with the QD mount I will be able to use it on both rifles. I wanted to try a 1-4 before paying more for a 1-7 or something.
Not planning to shoot past 200 meters with the keltec anyway. No target shooting planned.

Wanted to mount the TRS-25, but I want to try a 1-4. I might prefer a small crosshair and 4x to shoot a bit further out.

will report when I get it.

You can always have another scope mounted in another PERP anyway to switch between 1-4 and 6-24 anyway, or something like that, if you want to target with your ar or black gun anyway...

What sucks is that since ARs are restricted, I cant shoot it more than 25 yards anyway at the club, so it's pretty much pointless and I would rather invest on a better NR black gun, which I can shoot outside of a gun club.
(yes, I know, the restricted class is the stupidest thing after mag pinning....)

Trijicon TR24G. 1-4x amazingly clear bright optic. Worth every penny, and there were a lot of pennies involved, no regrets.

I'm in the exact same situation. Just bought an AR and am looking for an optic. I've used the trs-25 and it it great out to about 25-40 yards. After that, I find it obscures the target too much even at the lowest brightness. I am looking hard at the Vortex Viper 1-4. I'm very keen to read all the other comments in this thread.
