Getting new rifle

I like the safety position on the 700, and the fact that some models have removeable magazines, which I like, but I have never, ever had a stock that was as beautiful and fit me as well as my Win 70 Featherweight. Sorry I ever sold it. If I really wanted a .308 and had to choose between those two, I'd get the Win 70 Featherweight.

model 70 featherweight is a really nice light package. But just make sure it feels good in your hands. I love the feel of them. Quality wise they are both fine guns, but I find the new model 70's have superior quality to new 700's.

Go and shoulder as many rifles as you can and see what fits you best, don't look at the name don't look at the price.

You may wind up with a Weatherby or a Savage, or a Browning, make don't matter, caliber doesn't matter but fit to your body does, and all these little problems and quirks that shooters crucify brands for can be altered or changed or improved.

At the end of the day they ALL do the same thing!!!

Wow. I'm surprised at how many people are hanging the 700's out to dry. Remington really needs to up their game.

If I only had to choose out of the two I would pick the 70 as well.

I like the Remington 700s. I have one new 700 SS 5R in 308, and an older 700 BDL in 7-08. The BDL is older and the workmanship is better then the 5R.
I couldn't tell you how well the new Winchesters are put together.
I would take the others advice and actually handle both of them and buy the one that fits. With the Remington you can change the caliber at a reasonable price. Lots of barrels floating around thats why I changed my BDL from 6mm to 7-08.
