Getting old sucks!!!!!

66 here with both knees shot , right hip also , lower back and right shoulder , COPD , floaters in the eyes , hearing aids and numb feet from diabetes . It sux but i've got my tags and ready to go . All things considered i like this side of the lawn better .

I'm 67 and have had 2 seizures since last March. Needless to say they have taken away my drivers license, because these seizures cause me to black out for about 15 minutes. On top of that, the doctors have recently discovered 2 partially blocked arteries going to my heart, so it is not getting any easier. My wife is 2 years younger than me and I sure hope She doesn't have any issues at least until I am going again.

Beating an unbeatable cancer gave me a new optic on life, at 67 i feel youg and i never shot better.

I just dont walk that fast but the rest is 100%.

Next year around the same times, i will be a permanent US (NH) resident.

I will be able to make a cross on this Kanadea shythole.

knee pain, shoulder pain, back pain, heart surgery, a bit of a whistle in my left ear. (must be the wind blowing through). Floaters from eye injuries. (yes, you really should wear safety glasses)
Most of my pain is from a lifetime of doing stupid stuff. Lifting too much, and not wearing proper safety equipment.I'm simply wearing the old body out.
However when I wake up each morning, at least so far, I don't see roots, so all is well.

getting old definitely sucks
with many injuries work related, accident related,
7 heart attacks, numb feet from diabetes, two complete knee replacements and a reconstructed shoulder
poor circulation in my hands, 0 C my fingers start to create extreme pain from being cold even when wearing heavy mittens
I was finding it extremely difficult to properly stalk game ,and practice with my bows
but could still rifle hunt
now as I get older it seems I cant get a draw for big game (moose or Elk ) so am stuck hunting deer (which in itself is ok) but the down swing on the deer herds with no big bucks within a reasonable distance from the home base camp
it got so I couldn't go big game hunting with out someone accompanying me due to health reasons
which led to another basket of issues
I traded my archery gear for a real nice goose decoy and layout blinds spread
and have been collecting decoys and waterfowl gear ever since
and have never looked back on big game hunting and don't miss the trudging through knee deep snow in sometime -40F which comes with rifle season big game seasons in this area,
I have even gone so far as to get a retriever and found a new passion in life, with my Chesapeake as my number one companion and hunting partner,(to which I owe a great gratitude for seemingly to have given me a new lease on life)
I have sold off all my rifles to get more retriever or waterfowl equipment except a little 22 which I use for grouse
I now only have 6 guns (down sized from 68 )
3 10 gauges
1 12 gauge
1 16 gauge
and one awesome hunting partner that never says no or uses some lame excuse to go hunting under any circumstances
who has also helped to keep me in shape and make me think my body is that of a teen ager again
its sad we all just tend to live long enough to die, we all have that one thing in common
So I went on that new facebook thingy
there a page called market place and I placed an add for some future hunting equipment
here is the add I've had no responses as of yet
maybe I should place it here as well
in the hunting equipment forum as well
its all true stuff
(HERE IS THE ADD I POSTED )
Looking to purchase a track type all terrain type wheel chair
Must have
Pontoons as well maybe similar to air boat fan or big
Propeller to get across water ponds quickly
A Hemi motor lots of horse power
Extremely quite exhaust system
So it don't scare critters away
Must have gun racks
And a big cargo
Rack
Looking for this for when I get to old and decrepit and to feeble to hike and walk
Thought maybe if I started looking now I might find one by the time I turn 98 yrs old
That Way I won't have to give up hunting so early in life

I hear ya - 20 years underground lifting stupid loads, high vibration, dust, radiation and asbestos, car accident with 2 busted ankles and everything in my face, severe asthma then an autoimmune disease similar to rheumatoid arthritis. But all that stuff has been around so long I've learned to cope with it pretty well. But the tinnitus and floaters are driving me bonkers faster than my wife will.

HI All
I'm 72 will be 73 in October.
Due to a back injury at work in 1990 I've slowed down a bit
I still do lots of target shooting in the pit.
I also shoot quite a bit of trap with my trap machine.
I don't go in bad places alone anymore.
I miss my Labs but I can't take care of one anymore.
I have slowed down on my duck hunting, hard to find a good partner.
I still like to hunt grouse with my sxs's.
Debating whether I should buy a calf tag??
Or spend the money on Beef!!!
Yes getting old sucks.
old timer Lou

Ironers, get your eyes checked, I had bright flashes in my right eye and the optometrist confirmed that part if my retina had detached. Sent me to the hospital and after a 20 minute laser treatment it was sealed and cured.

Ditto this. Floaters and flashes which spontaneously start can be a retina detaching. Got a buddy who has had his detach twice, and it wasn’t enjoyable for him.

I did as soon as it happened. Turns out as you get older the liquid in your eyes begins to gel and eventually it can pull away from inside of your eye, this is what happened to me. No retinal detactment or tears but I am at a higher risk of it happening so I just have to be careful of hitting my head. And it all goes back to my bad eyes. I have a very strong prescription so it happened earlier in life for me than most people (45 years old for me in 2016).

I'll add one more. a ridiculously named (to a shooter) condition known as "trigger finger". Strikes usually when doing repetitive tasks such as painting with a brush etc. Much worse when the hand is cold.
Your fingers just lock, have to be freed up with the other hand. Very painful. I'm told mine is not severe enough yet for surgery. I've learned to sort of deal with it by repositioning whatever tool it is in my hand periodically. I've had it long enough now that I can feel it coming on in time to stop it from the severe lock.

It's amazing what you can learn to live with. I'm avoiding surgery as long as I can for my joints.

60 here. I left 3 gun because of it.
My eye sight was giving me trouble. simply couldn't keep up the speed of the younger shooters.
By the end of the day I was wiped !
Go back to cowboy shooting.........maybe.

My best buddy lost his dad to hunting 25 years ago. He was trying to haul out a dear & died right there with the dear of a heart attack. Be safe, watch out,..take a buddy.

Arthritis has not been kind to me...2 hips total replacement, left elbow, total replacement, my spine is fused, now my left shoulder, just came undone. I’m only 76 and I can’t do many of the things I love. I just went to a 20 gauge shotgun, and don’t use my high recoil rifles anymore.

The elbow is being done in November (at my request as grouse is finished then, should have been this summer). How was that elbow replacement have not been able to talk to anyone who has had one?
As long as we are keeping score this will be my fifth replacement. Seven if you count the ACL's :). Would I do things differently, probably not, stubborn has always trumped my smart factor.

Im enlisting my 25 year old son and a bunch of his friends who are getting into hunting to make my life easy. Next year... build trapper cabin on my property. Hopefully shoot bambi right off the porch. :)

Y'all just have to change to modern hunting methods. In today's age, I have yet to see a hunter who is not within a stones throw of a motorized vehicle.

Over many years of not taking care with my eyes while outdoors,I developed cataracts in both. Two years ago,I had them removed and the lenses replaced. Now,I can use my rifle open sights like I was 20 again, but,I invested good money in a couple of pairs of high quality sun glasses and never, and I mean never,go outside without them even on overcast days. My Ophthalmologist warned me that sunlight exposure is the #1 cause of cataracts and if they return, the damage will be permanent. After my 5th year of retirement,I still have SCUBA Level 2 certification, I still cycle 10kms. and pump light iron every other day and think nothing of back packing into the bush and staying overnight to fish or hunt. Philosophically,I'm under no delusion that it couldn't all end in a hour, but,I don't even think that way. Every day is a gift and I believe we have a responsibility to ourselves to live every day like it may be the last.
