Man! I feel that I'm 20 instead of 54 years of age. It's been a month now that I've been getting pumped for the hunting season and becomes more intense daily. I've been to the rifle range 6 times this year banging off new reloads. If I keep this up I won't be able to sleep at night. Hope I get my mule deer buck draw this year, if not then it is back to the whitetail.
Who else is "getting pumped?".

Its been 11 years waiting for my Elk tag. Hopefully I made the right choice for it. The first time I got to shoot with any amount of time was last weekend, very pathetic. Trying to develop a load for the 30-06 specifacally for this trip but between having run out of my bullets I am going to have to start over with a different supply.

All the same though, very excited and looking forward to the 14th.

I've been working on my house getting it ready to put on the market so I've barely gone shooting this summer so far. It's sad. I did shoot a IPSC 3 gun fun match a couple weeks ago and it was a blast.. Due to my reloading stuff packed in totes, I borrowed a Glock 17 instead of my normal Glock 22 for the pistol part, which was interesting.. PF 130 haha..

Hunting is really getting me kinda antsy though, I kinda hope I continue with the part time contract work into the fall so that I can be up there in the week when all the other schmucks are working.

Depending on how long the house thing takes, I might have to go buy a couple boxes of factory ammo as all my reloading stuff is packed up in totes. A few very very heavy totes.

Whatever, I shot a 2x3 Mulie a couple years ago with a 6.5x55 Remington 140gr core lokt and it did fine. I still want to try a warm 129gr SST though. I hit one last year with an accurate but starting load'ish 140gr SST and it zipped though without doing too much damage. Since I only hit rear lungs, one shot did it, but it took a bit. This time I want to try a 129 at ~2700-2800 ish and see what that does. I suspect quite a bit. My Tikka loves 129gr SSTs.

Oh well, at least there will be grouse :)

I'm pumped at the possibility of taking a deer with my Kel-Tec RFB!!! It's pure awesome bullpup goodness!!!

Cheers
Jay

A buddy of mine from waaay back called and asked if he could borrow my Lead Sled.
Nay nay I say, it only comes with me :) :)
He took the bait.
You want to go shooting he asked..........
YEEEEUUUUPPP!!
Out of bed at 4:30 a.m. yesterday and loaded up.
At the range before 6:00 a.m. and OHHHH WHAT A FEELING.
Bright sunny morning, couple of bugs, no wind, and slightly cool.
And no one there c'ept us.
Got my Schultz $ Larsen all sighted in after a Bushnell warranty.
Got my Ruger 308 win sighted in after a fellow Nutzs sold me his Elite 4200.
Got my Beaner's Laminate Stevens 200 in 308 win with a new Elite 3200 warranty pegged.
Got my Ruger 25-06 sighted in with my old Redfield.
Got my 94.....30-30 all sighted in after my peep sight installed. Thanks ctw for the great deal on the peep.
My buddy had a couple rifles he was developing loads for and he was done shooting pretty
quick, or so he thought.
I bullseyed all the above except the 30-30 at 25 yards and passed them over to him to shoot at the 100 yard mark. He dialed them in with his eyes and after that, I took over.
Seems I shoot the Schultz about an 1 1/2" higher than him. Go figure. We were done by
9ish and puttered with the 30/30.
Feels good to get that out of the way. Now to load up for the moosie hunt.
Get out there and burn some powder. I can't think of a better way to get unwound.
And early a.m. works wonders.
Looky.

Hey track, I'd be more pumped if I didn't wake up in OZ tommorow. You folks stay safe up there!

I here ya! Tornado watches in several area's of the province. Okotoks is not threatened but I'm still looking in the skies for activity. In the mean time I'll be reading my BIG BUCK magazine which arrived in the mail today.

Looking forward to our moose hunt in October.Just picked up an old Remington 700 in 7mm Rem mag and have been playing with it. Put a new Burris scope on it and have been shooting Federal factory 175 grain loads and have been getting 1" - 1.5" groups with it.Stock is worn/ banged up so I may replace it.Need to get some dies and work up a load.Don't know if I'll take this gun on the moose hunt or my Browning X-bolt or both. Decisions decisions. Chers bac4

I am slowing warming up. If the Sask goverment decides to make the draw results public before November I may get even more excited!

The majority of the draw results in Alberta will be out on July 14th @ 8:00 am.
I thought that the Saskatchewan results would of been on-line already for the resident hunters, if not, I sure sometime soon. GOOD LUCK!!!

Off to Scotland for a week stalking in October then home to Alberta in November for deer (and maybe moose as we are at 10 in the draw this year). Have just renewed my French permit and looking forward to a few days of driven boars through the fall and winter. I have to fit in some work around this, otherwise I'd could get exited.

Thanks my friend we are super A for mulies so I am anxiously waiting. It is funny you know when we sent in our handwritten application forms then sent them in by mail we had our results by this time. Now with the internet and everything "E" style we have to wait. Makes me shake my head. Good luck to you this fall as well.

Hey Grouse make sure to post pics for us here of your success'sssss. Welcome to CGN

Not only looking fwd to sept. birds, but now empty nester's wife and I are going on a 2week, that's right, you read right, 2 week hunt last wk Sept/1st week Oct. Camp beside a river holding browns and grayling, chase the deer away from the trailer door(actually happened one morning last year!), grouse and ptarmigan in a cast iron pan on a barrel stove, and if we're luck, reeeaaaallly lucky, moose in the freezer! (fingers crossed)

I think my sigline makes it pretty obvious how excited I am. :D

With all this work and trying to finish my shop,I actually got my new .204 ruger dialed in (with factory 34gr hp's)so despite pulling a big fat zero on the draws again,I'm very pumped.Elk hunt in the kootenay's and mulies and those rare immature bulls around home. Can't wait

Got beer? Here's the stencil I used: http://www.takeem.com/blinds/MarshGrass-Stencil.pdf

Wallyworld has 2 colors of flat camo paint. It was the only place I found that had suitable spray bombs. Kind of a brown and almost tanny-straw? Looks pretty good with the flat green boat.

Here's a pic of my duckboat. Not a good pic in the shade, but it looks good in person. I had planned on making a fold-down burlap/cattail blind but the cattail drying didn't go as good as planned, and quite frankly the boat looks good enough in person we're just going to sit on the bottom and use our factory dyed goose chair field burlap for cover.

Oh, and I'm serious, you've got beer, I've got time next week, a 12' boat would take maybe..............a dozen beer? :D
My boat took 2 cans of each color and about 8 stencils cut out. Pm me if you like.
