Patterned my new benelli supernova today. Used 3" HEVI SHOT #6 2oz load with newly purchased Indian Creek .665 choke.

My first time pattering and looking to do it again soon.

35 yards, 12" circle, lost count (two shells)

40 yards, 1 shell, 200 hits

200 hits eh?
The only hits that count as a kill are supposed to be the ones in the brain and spine on that profile target.

You look like you're still in good shape tho because they say 3 pellets in that zone and you're safe.

I hope my new choke patterns that well. I'm still busy yote/hare hunting and ice fishing though.

EDIT: Just noticed its a 2oz load. Hows your shoulder?

sweet pattern. Where are you hunting in T.O. ?? HAHA I hope to pattern mine in the near future. Aren't you gonna pattern out to 50yds just to know?

I had some tips from a friend of mine who's very experienced turkey hunter and 40 yards is pretty much needed range. I still might try and test the max distance.

Talk about turkey fever ;).......I'm still ice fishing! Nice pattern though......should try to whack some wabbits or yotes in the meantime.

the fever is taking over :D will try for some yotes and furry creatures soon!

hey diemaco,

shoulder is good, thanks to my supernova recoil pad lol

Anyways, just ordered Pure Gold turkey choke in .670 constriction..will post results soon.

cheers

Dumb question time from an Albertan who's never so much as seen let alone hunted a wild turkey: wouldn't it be easier and more effective to use a .22 at those ranges?

Not allowed here. Only #4-5-6. shot. It's for the hunters safety.
Also you have to pay $$$ for a course and sit through it for 6 hours just to be allowed the privilege of hunting wild turkey in Ontario. (Yes this is on top of your hunting license.):mad:

New course is much shorter than previous years. It was from 9am - 12:30pm

The indian creek blackdiamond strike tubes and the heavy shot 3-2-6 or the 3-1/2-2-1/4-6 is the real deal,by far the most devastating patterns i have ever shot for turkey.
I have two 870s set up with these chokes and loads a 3 inch 870 turkey that i installed a knox spec opps stock on and a 3-1/2 inch 870 super max gobbler that comes factory with the knox stock.
I was so impressed with the recoil dampening and ease of handleing with the pistol grip of the knox stock on the super max that i converted my other 870 to knox as well.
Installed a .665 ICBDS tube in each one, these are now my two dedicated turkey guns and most likely will be for the rest of my days.
Two deadly effective turkey shotguns, what more could a gobbler nut ask for.

They warn you about wearing colours out of fear of you being mistaken for a Turkey and shot at.

I can see how a person can be mistaken for a 14lb bird sometimes.

So it not in regs., can the Turkeys see orange ? or is it because the orange appears as a solid mass (not broken up like a camo pattern)

Whats preferred a makeshift blind or tree stand?

Would you shot a Turkey in a tree or strictly ground shots?

They dont want you to wear colours especially red, white and blue as it mimics the turkeys head colours for safety reasons.
Turkeys, like all birds do however see the full colour spectrum like humans.

No blind or treestand is required, good camo, minimal to no movement and some back ground cover is all thats required.Sitting with your back to a big tree is the norm.

For ethical reasons shots should only be taken at turkeys which are on the ground.
