Getting started help

Thought I would revive my old thread rather than start a new one. So I'm heading to Ontario to visit the wife's family for a week. While there I'm planning on hitting up Bass Pro and picking up a Rock Chucker kit to get me started reloading. Depending how much my other half decides to spend I'm going to get a few more pieces to go with it. Needs some suggestions here, what are the extra much needed accessories I should pick up? Case trimmer, calipers, small replacement parts...

Also, what's the difference between a 2 die set and a 3 piece set?

Any suggestions on powder and primers to start with? I have a 22.250, 303, 3006, 300wsm, and a 300rum shortly.

Thanks again for the help.

The two die set has a full length sizer/decapping die and a bullet seating die. The 3 die set includes the factory crimp die which, if you're shooting bolt action, isn't really needed. You might want to call ahead to BassPro before you stop in to make sure they have most of what you want. Last time I was there (about 2wks ago) it was slim pickings and they had no primers or powder. Hit up LeBaron or RogueRiverArms. If you're heading out near Niagara area, pop by Lawrys 'cause they have a decent selection of powder.

For calipers I would wait for crappy tires sale as you can get a nice set (same ones as dillion etc) for 15.

I'd also add some case size gauges to what has already been mentioned. These are cheap insurance that your sizing and trimming is within spec. I have found that the Lee trimming equipment, once tweaked, are accurate and fast. It's also hard to see how one could find a better value, although their trim/deburr tool sucks.

An understatement. That's why I set it aside after taking it out of the package and bought a Wilson.

What's everyone's opinion on vibratory case cleaners? All fairly equal? how about media, what should I use? I have a fair amount of Winchesters supreme brass that looks nickel plated, need anything special for it?
Thanks again for all the help.

I use a Lyman Turbo 600 Pro with the green treated cob. Cases come out looking pretty darn new looking after 2hrs of tumbling. Only reason I never went for a sonic or tumbler is because I'm lazy and don't want to take the extra steps in having to dry the brass. I go straight from cleaning to loading.

I bought the Lyman Turbo 600 today. Not noisy at all, I throw my ultrasonic-cleaned brass in for 20 min to take off any tarnishing, and they look beautiful.

I like shiny brass.
