needs trigger work. I can get splits in the .16/17 on my last gun( but it had a pile off work and ammo threw it)

Ya I've been tempted to buy a versamax tactical, from another post someone said Casey at tactical ordnance said the versamax tactical is considered a 3 1/2" gun because that's what it's chambered for even if it's not engraved on the barrel. If that is true I'll def get one. But I want some proof that the frt says this.

I looked a one the other day and got to store to take the mag tube off for me to see what they did. They just filled it up with spray foam with a washer at the end, pretty easy to make some more space.

But I want some proof that the frt says this.

Ask and ye shall have. Here's the FRTS...

Tactical: (3")

Sportsman: (3.5")

I think it only makes things more confusing...

So a "commercial customized" tactical with 3" chamber has a 7 shot capacity but a sportsman with 3.5" has 2?
Does anyone with any knowledge actually review those documents or are the specs on FRT docs just randomly generated by the computer?

Just more confusion and stupidity, and this coming from the people enforcing the laws.

I don't really understand why there are two different identifiers for the Tactical. Why does one say 5 shot capacity and one say 7 shot capacity? Does that mean that as they are shipped with a 7 round capacity we don't have to plug them? I received mine with no plug and ended up installing one because I though I had to. If not, I will fix it.

I think regardless of what FRT might say; when the guy from NWEST stuffs more than 5 of the particular round that the RCMP have deemed appropriate for your gun in it at your trial, you're going to screwed. The criminal code still has the "5 rounds for a semi" law in it; and that would overshadow any FRT descriptions.

The big question is "what is the appropriate round for your particular gun"?

That's what I figured so I plugged it at 5.9 rounds of 3". No matter what I try I can't get that 6th round of 3" in, but 6 rounds of 2 3/4 sure fit nice. I wasn't sure if the 3.5 in chamber would allow for 7 rounds of 2 3/4 or not and I didn't really want to pay to get the barrel nocked back. 26" seemed a little long for me. Hell, at times a 22" seems long with a sling in a match.

Not all 3" shells are created equal.....people should be aware, that there can be at least 1/4" difference in the length of different brands and makes of shotgun shells of the same "length".

If one uses a particular brand of shell to test the mag capacity of a particular firearm.....I would keep those shells to prove your innocence, or guilt, however it may be, that you took steps to be in compliance...IMHO!

Here's what I read/heard/understand for what it's worth. The chamber in the Tactical is actually 3.5 inch. However, in early production / sales, there were reports that when the magazine was fully charged with some brands of 3.5, the weight under recoil caused shells to crush/distort in the tube. Subsequently and consequently they marked the VMT as 3.0 regardless of the 3.5 chamber.

When I got my VMT, it was plugged to 4 x 2.75 with a steel cup. In playing with it and without deliberately trying to remove it, it literally fell out. At that point the entire extension tube was available and would hold more than the allowable number of 2.75 which is all I'm interested in shooting.

I made a plug with tubing and epoxy that allows 5 x 3.0 to be loaded and just barely 6 x 2.75. As I shoot in the US more than in Canada, I have an extension that I keep there that gives me 10 + 1. I restore the gun to Canadian standards before coming back from the US. I also have a + 1 cap that gives me 9 + 1 if that's what the game rules call for.

I've got a Versa Max and have been torture testing it for 2 years.

I've got well over 1000 rounds through it.... of any kinda crap I can stuff in it.

I've yet to clean it ... at all.

And it still just keeps on shootin. (Knock wood)

VERY pleased with it's reliability.
