Getting the Youngest Out (with his "new" Stevens Little Scout...)

I gave the boy a really nice Stevens Little Scout for his sixth birthday, so we brought it out. He was right into the loading/extracting etc. This one is a later one, from the 20s/30s (SVG marked). Originally I got this rifle for me, but I actually have a nicer one, all original case hardening and bluing intact (pre-SVG mark).

I also brought out what IMHO has been the best gun deal I've gotten in the past couple decades, a Chapparal "9422" I got for next to nothing maybe 10 years ago from a dealer we can't name around here anymore. People really turned their noses up on these things but I've got thousands of trouble free rounds through this unit, fit/finish is just fine. Heck I haven't even cleaned it, not for at least a couple bricks. I usually don't win the lottery, so hopefully I didn't use up all my life's luck on this unit.

At any rate ....

Loading - he took control of that (probably worth noting that I stick to subsonic ammo in these classics, the breech thrust from HV ammo can stretch the pins):

Shooting - the stock needs some tweaking, I'll make a temporary replacement so he can fit it a little better at 6 years old:

I made a swinging gong from a couple old saw blades (two together, I was going to weld 'em but only bolted 'em), I hadn't expected it to hold up long but we've been beating this thing up now even with the 9mm at 25 yards, trying to keep it with .22 and muzzleloaders... whatever it's working.

Great post, and even nicer to see that young fella with "eyes and ears" on! Two thumbs up! It's amazing how many photos I see of kids shooting with NEITHER! Anyhow, proud dad moment...I sure miss those days. Enjoy every moment, they grow up too fast.
 
Had my little man out plinking on Sunday for the first time. About 100 rounds, through a Savage mk2 (heavy barrel) and about 200 through Henry lever gun. Used the seat on the snow machine as a bench, lol.

Killed a few cans at about 20 yards. Hope you don't mind NorthCoast, I'm going to copy your saw blade target setup!

^likewise...I have lots of spent ones. :) Painting tip~hit them with a coat of flat white before painting red or construction orange. (I use orange) The brightness of the color goes WAY WAY up=improved visibility
 
Thanks folks; yes it's always a "blast". I have two older daughters, my oldest is a great shot. Except she is starting to cost me more in ammo, she sure burns through it....

I wasn't sure how those saw blades would hold up, but I'm impressed. Note that I have two bolted together there for strength but it might not be needed for just .22! I didn't have time to weld up a steel support but those 2x2"s have outlasted my expectations, even being hit with riccochet.
