Getting there. An M44 Added to the Millsup "collection"

Well, several years ago (before I had even sent away for my PAL) my father in law gave unto me a Mosin Negant carbine for Christmas. Just the other day when I was visiting he remembered that it was still in his possession, and I had almost forgotten entirely. Well it's now in it's new home.

With no more adue, I present, "Vasselli". (pictured along side "Franco", my 1916 Spanish Mauser converted to .308)

Tried to get a shot of the bore too.

Is there anything anyone can tell me about this particular model of rifle?

I think 1947 was the last year of production for the Mosin nagant M44s, yours is Izhevsk made as well. Strange how yours does not have the globe sight ?

I'll have to default to the Mosin experts on this one but I wish I could get a Christmas present like that instead of lumps of coal .

Perhaps I have to leave those "santa size" cookies out this year instead of the store brand ones ?

That's interesting. Why would it have a Mauser sight if it was built postwar?

So, I just found out (ok like 48 hours ago now) that my firing pin, is dead, toast, Kaput... wait, Russian gun, "мертвый".

I had my bolt apart, (was board and wanted to know how the inner workings,...worked. FYI getting it apart, easy, back together.... had to use youtube...) gave it a good cleaning, and upon further inspection, noticed the firing pin seemed really shiny on the tip... and looked ground down...

Seems the previous, previous owner had either broken it (which I doubt) or ground it down to be a non-firing gun looking stick....

So made the call to marstar, they MAY have one or 2 in stock, I told them I would take 2 if they had it. After all, its only 13 bucks.



Is there anymore info on this specific "breed" of rifle anyone can offer?

UPDATE*

TradeEx had the part I was looking for as well as some other goodies.

All in all the order consisted of:

New firing pin

New front hooded sight

5 stripper clips

and finally, the Mosin Nagant accessory pakage (Sling, tool kit, oiler)
