Getting to/from your stand

How do you guys get to and from your stand do you walk or quad and how far do you have to go from camp?

I usually walk 2km but lazy mornings I will take the quad about 3/4 of the way there. Am I hurting my chance by doing this?

I prefer to walk, but taking the quad isn't the end of the world.
One thing I have noticed though, is if you see an animal leave the quad running. Something about turning off the engine gets them spooked 10x more than it idling away as you get off and into position.

I walk, but from where I park my car, across the field, in bush and to my stand is 500 yards, tops

Due to the lay of the land, I pretty much have to walk 2-5k to get into the good spots. I have one new spot this year that I'm seriously considering using a canoe to get in and out of as it is right along a creek. Does anyone think a canoe in the water tied to a tree would scare passing deer?

These spots hold the deer, but man do the guys in the camp complain when I drop one way back in the swamp...

I walk... but my stands are less than 200 yards from the road....

And I shot 2 with the bow withing 100 yards of the truck last season.

I walk but most of mine is woodland plots up to 300 acres. I get into position either in a high seat (stand) for dawn or dusk and stalk (still hunt) in between!

Considering I've canoed past deer (15-20 yards) without them spooking, I'd say grab the canoe and go.

It'll also make packing them out nicer.

I'd say no...better off riding than walking some times...

rubber boots...rubber tires...

the faster you move through an area the less ground/air borne scent you leave...

I used to use a mountain bike for my stands in the far corners of the north section...bout a mile an 1/4 from the house...

the way folks walk makes a scarier sound to a deer than most things...only people march through the bush

how you get to your stand isn't as important as how you get to your stand...
hunt your way in...make the time and go slow...stop along the way and pull some grass...crunch some chokecherries with your mouth open...the animals that you don't know are around will stay comfortable and not disappear because a human is marching through the bush...the closer you get to your stand the more important this becomes...

Agree 100%. Moose will stand and watch the quad with the motor running, as soon as you turn it off they run away. Weird. Got one this season with the quad running.
