Gevarm (and Ian)

I tried and tried with Gevarms. Owned tons of them. The limiting factor is the factory 8 round magazines. The rifles typically only come with one. Finding additional magazines runs into several problems...either none are available at all, or the ones you can find don't work, or the new repros don't work at all.

The only mags I ever had that worked at all were the factory 8 rounders that came with the rifle new. (probably hand fitted)
Any 15 or 20 round mags I had didn't work at all.

I'm talking the steel tube receiver rifles (A3 and A6) btw...the white metal E2 takedowns have weak receivers that can bend or get destroyed by using high velocity ammo.

Of the two rifles I have with an 8 round mag and factory 15 round mag both work fine. I also have several aftermarket 8 round mags that work fine as well. Never had an issue.

Agree but it may depend on what brand of aftermarket mag one buys. I don't remember the brand as I sold the gun, but I bought a 15 round mag from a forum member and it worked fine without any issues.

You guys are luckier than I ever was. I had to return several of the new 15 round aftermarket mags I bought out west...totally non functional.

The Gevarm ( mine is an E1) is one of the few semi-autos that I know of that will reliably function with CCI Quiet. I've heard they will cycle .22 short as well, but I don't have any on hand to try. My Browning will cycle Quiets too, but with an occasional stove-pipe.

When I imported gevarms from France, they only
had the 8 round and the 20 round magazines available.
Most factory 20 round magazines have to be fitted to really
work properly
The factory closed because of French Firearms Legislation regarding
22 rimfire rifles in the 1970's

I have two E1 Gevarms. Both work very well with the factory 8 an 20 round magazines. As stated previously, they actually work with CCI quiets, but I prefer CCI mini-mags.

.22 CB Longs would fire but not eject. You had to extract them with a jacknife. Not enough oomph to move the bolt and since the bolt does not have an extractor...and yes, I know about moving the weight either fore or aft on the recoil spring.
