Sharing some pics of a pre-war German Gewehrfabrik Danzig scoped .22 rifle. The scope is an old single post Oigee scope marked "D.R.P. OIGEE Berlin Nr.915

Very low serial #7.

The quick detachable see-thru scope mounts are serial numbered to the rifle.

Looking for any additional information on this old rifle from the members on this forum.

Cheers!

From what I gather they were made in Germany post WW1 In around 1920 production was given to Poland as a war reparation. It should use the now obsolete Winchester Rimfire. These had a fatter case so the .22 LR ammo may fit loose and split on firing. Maybe sit a sandbag on top of action to try it out.

If it is .22WRF, the ammunition has been manufactured in recent times, and can be found.

That's quite a piece of history, I like the font used on the receiver.
A German family adopted my grandfather in the early 1920's in West Dover, Nova Scotia.
Their name was Smeltzer.

The 22 WRF is available in the US from a number of places. Last fall I was looking for some and couldn't find any online in Canada. I had Halifax Army & Surplus bring me in 4 bricks, which was all they could find. It took awhile. I remember about 8 years ago I was walking around WSS and they had a number of boxes at the end of one of the rows of ammunition. I should have bought a bunch but I didn't have the gun at the time that required it.

OP--that's an interesting and very nice looking combination.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have seen Oigee scopes coming up for sale as there is some collector interest in these old German optics.
