GF needs a grouse gun

This is out of my league and I'm wondering if I can get some guidance.

She wants a 26" -ish overall length shotgun that weighs about 5lbs. 20 gauge would be perfect. Only used for grouse at close range. 410 is too light of a load in my opinion but maybe I'm wrong.

She's small. 5'2" and really small framed. She feels swinging a 40" long gun is too awkward that why she likes the small length.

It's going to be a gift for her so I don't want to break the bank.

Can't weigh over 5lbs. Very important

Help!

Thanks for looking

Jeff

The most important information you should act on;

What is the desired length of pull she requires for her own natural fit/her own natural pointing?

Honestly her desired length of pull that would fit her best would be 12 inch ish.

I'm going to bust my hump to get this right. Went out today and she shot her 357 lever and I just kept my mouth zipped of any statement like see it's not that bad or they are the same

I'm driving home and she says next time I'm shooting the 20gauge.

She doesn't realize the other one should be here tomorrow

So it might come together

I know you are talking shotgun for grouse but like others have said why not have her look at a 22LR rifle as well = another rifle... :)

I have hunted grouse for close to 50 years now I have shot hundreds of them I have never shot one with a shotgun of any cal/gauge.

I used and trained my sons to use 22LR rifles for grouse they have never used anything else.

The best 22LR ammo for grouse hunting are the CCI SGB (small game bullets) they kill grouse faster with less damage than any other 22LR bullet I've ever tried.

My favourite grouse gun is now a Marlin 917SF in 17HMR I shoot grouse in the head from 5 yards to 75 yards.

I had fun with a buddy of mine that is an avid grouse hunter he uses a 22LR.

I didn't let him see that I had a 17HMR it was hilarious he couldn't figure out how I was able to shoot grouse in the head at the distances I was shooting.

For target shooting your GF will put 10 shots into a ragged hole at 50 yards there is low noise and no recoil.

If she could use her pistol for hunting all of this would be mute.

She doesn't like a scope and her eyesore at 48 isn't good enough to hunt beyond 25 yards.

A shotgun would give her the greatest success and that's why I focused on that.

A 22 would have been perfect under different circumstances. Hopefully the semi 20 works good for her. Might be here tomorrow.

Told her (notice the change there?) that the semi auto I picked up this time was take it or leave it. Got an Asena 20g even though she doesn't like black plastic guns. Ditched the factory butt stock for an ATI with a better recoil pad. Went to the range and had her rapid fire five shots. She laughed and said alright alright it's pretty cool.

Took her hunting twice now, we got skunked twice.

That's a whole different level of disappointment for her now.

She feels comfortable with the gun, excellent choice. Happy wife= happy life. She will enjoy the time spent is my guess.
