Ghost ring sights on Shotty

Hi all,

Need some advice. Looking to get my first shotgun which I want to turn into a tactical shotty.

Should I get ghost ring sights or just the regular bead front sight?

I like Scattergun Technologies (Trijicon) Trak-Lock ghost rings for everything but flying targets. (For me, they make flying targets harder to hit. Others disagree.) For anything else, though, from 0-100 yards, ghost rings are great.

Another viable option would be a small optic like the C-More STS.

it depends.
IMO ghost rings are ideal for slugs, bead is ideal for shot. both will still work with the other.
decide what you will be shooting the most of.

I'll most likely be shooting 00 Buck Tac loads or similar. On occassion I'll shoot some slugs.

if its buckshot at <50 yards, IMHO id stick with a bead or blade sight.

I like ghost rings sights on a shotgun. I would say the gun you intend to purchase will determine if you use a factory ghost ring or choose an after market sight. If for example you go with a Remington 870 Marine Magnum (it comes with a bead) you will have to purchase after market sights, but a ghost ring equipped Mossberg comes with a pretty good sight arrangement. Depending on how demanding your conditions are, sight wings can add a degree of protection. I managed to bend the front post of my 590 when scrambling though the rocks along the coast.

I bought my first SG with Ghost Ring sights after owning a few bead sights.
The 18.5" Mossy590A1 is my favorite. (Even my 13yr old son enjoyed it)
The GR are fast and accurrate with either shot or slugs.
If you're thinking about getting a SG with GR sights it would be almost always cheaper to buy one with them already installed.

one thing to remember. if you do take your shotgun outside in the winter.. ghost ring sights tend to get plugged up with snow and ice fairly easily. although it is easy to remove.. i have found a few times that it was plugged up with snow when i wanted to take a shot. same problem happens with mud and dirt in the summer.

I am with Wildfoot. Ghost Ring sights are great but not in every application. The question is really WHAT your shotgun is for. In my case, defensive bush carry, there is NO reason to be shooting at anything further than 20-30m and thus my bead sight suits my needs perfectly and eliminate any chance for snagging my scabbard or becoming plugged with snow and debris. "Best sight" implies best for all applications, which in my opinion doesnt exist, especially when MONEY is a factor!
