Sorry if this is already somewhere on the forum:

just had a friend send me a link for xs ghost ring sights for a marlin 1895, naturaly i MUST have some (not a huge fan of the stock sights)

Please, does anybody know where i can find some in teh edmonton to calgary area???

Also while I'm talking about 45-70 pose a question out to the other shooters of this fine piece;
just wondering what slugs you use and what kind of performance you get from them?

thnks

I bought my XS sights for my 1895 at The Shooting Edge - They had the winged and non-winged version when I bought them a few months back.

I bought the winged ones and they are nice! I think... $120? Can't recall for sure...

A search on the Marlin 1895 and/or 45-70 related topic (particularly specifying this Forum) will bring to surface quite a few threads.

The firearm/cal in question, as you may already be aware of, offers greater versatility for the handloader. The use of effective loads, in terms of factory or handloads - will depend on how comfortable one may be with recoil issues, probable hunting scenarios, shooting distances, what one would like to achieve :) etc.

Personally, I found the Hornady LE 325gr (my preference), Win 300gr, Rem 405gr tolerable recoilwise but experienced substantial muzzle climb (read more during off-hand shooting) due to the carbine bbl.... subsequent installation of a Limbsaver Pad, in my case, made a massive difference (read one could shoot factory all day without pain :D) and achieved better control of the rifle.

Note - with the XS sights, I found the smaller aperture (2 are provided in the kit) as more suitable to me even in dim light conditions out to 150yds.

I too, bought mine from the Shooters Edge (on this sight.) I got the non winged for 100. and never had quicker delivery service from Calgary. I haven't used it much yet, but looks really good. It has white marked post on the front and two size aperatures. I prefer the smaller of the two.
