I bought some ghost ring sites for my USP. there are 3 dot sites just like factory, and fit factory channels with no mods. Are they legal with the new site rules for production? I thought they would be..but now im not sure. anybody know? thanks

From Vince Pinto:

...And, yes, you can use "any open sights", which means fixed, adjustable, black, 3-dot, night sights, fibre optic & ghost ring (the last one only if you're a silly bugger!), provided you do not cut or machine the slide in any way, shape or form. If something needs to be adjusted, trim the sight.

I presume this will be good news for Glock owners, and many others too, no?

good...it seems being a bugger is now legal!!!!! I momentarily had the fear about my new purchase. thanks for the info.

FWIW: I don't think you are going to be happy with ghost ring sights. I experimented with them a few years back quite extensively, and found them to be very fast to pick up, but imprecise beyond about ten yards. I just could not call my shots reliably, and mystery misses started showing up on targets that I swore I had a perfect sight picture on.

I am thinking the round loop may obstruct a little of the sight plane....??
ALthough it looks to be awesome for targets up close; front sight in the circle....bang!

The round loop tends to almost but not totally "disappear" when you look through it to the front sight, and becomes even less visible if you look through the sights to the target. This is much like the same as looking through the ring of a C-More scope. So there will be the perception of the front sight sitting on the target with a fuzzy halo (the ring) around it. In my experiments, I actually made up a very narrow front sight post and mounted a .100 diameter bead on it, which worked way better than a post sight or fiber optic as it centered up better in the ring and hid less of the target. But as nice as it was to look at, I couldn't call my shots reliably on anything past ten yards. Standard sights are much more obstructive since they block out 50% of the target, but they are also more precise. You just can't get decent accuracy with ghost rings, and that is why you don't see any top shooters using them.

I noticed a lot of people using fibre optics recently. I put a set on my USP, and I have not used them in a match, or even have them sighted in yet, but it looks promising.
Ghost ring seemed to be popular on shotguns

I think it works better on a shotgun because one end of the gun is pinned to the shoulder, and the face(eyes) move with the gun. Also, minute-of-washtub accurracy is fine for a scattergun, but try to hit an eight inch place at 30 yards with a slug and a ghost ring and it might be a different story.
