I like the look of the classic 1911s, gi models is what I think they are called? Anyway, I'm sure some of you out there know of a few good companys making that model.

My favorites, in order: Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, Kimber, STI, Springfield, Para Ordonance (canadian). Look em all up and see what models you prefer. Para Ordonance would be more affordable than the others listed.

Need your price range. If you don't want to spend much this would fit the bill

Yea I saw that Sam military after I posted. It looks nice and I found a couple posts on here about them and they seem like good pistols... But I could spend up to a grand, I want a nice 1911 for sure... I've loved the look of them for a long time and have fired one before. The 45 is a nice round, nice big bang haha

Yes sir haha. Right now I'm just waiting on my rpal to come back to me, sent the forms out about a week ago. I think I'll go with that Sam. It's seems like a good pistol and can't go wrong for $440 :). But does anybody know of a good place to buy custom grips? I would love a set from a famous movie like punisher or resident evil or something like that.

If you want a basic GI style pistol there are a few options, some being harder to find than others.

Obviously Colt, although it sounds like most people around here usually have to wait a while or have one brought in (which also involves waiting).

I like plugging Springfield, my GI model was my first pistol ever and its a great gun that closely resembles a WW2 era M1911A1. Thumb safety and grips were the only changes I made to complete the vintage look.

Another I like is Rock Island Armory, mine has been a solid reliable pistol without a single issue. They also make a version that resembles the pre A1 pistol, with a half moon front sight.

No personal experience myself, but Auto Ordnance also makes a decent looking repro of the GI pistol. Looks like they made an honest effort, down to details like a wide spur hammer and short shelf thumb safety. Price seems to vary, I've seen them anywhere from 6-900 bucks.

The Remington 1911 was mentioned. Sounds like a good deal at around $600, consideriing the many glowing reviews on this piece.

Remington made 1911s in WWII so they are the real deal too, so to speak.

I had a parkerized Springfield Armory Gov't at one time that looked like an true WWII GI 1911 because of its finish.

Remington Arms wasn't affiliated with pistol production during WW2, at that point Remington Rand was a completely different entity, probably best known for manufacturing typewriters and other office equipment.

Remington Arms built pistols for a period during WW1 however, when joined with UMC.

Remington's current offering might be a decent enough pistol in its own right, but I personally don't consider it a "repro" as it incorporates many modern features while using its supposed "legacy" for marketing. I would put it in the same category as other entry level pistols with enhanced features (such as Springfield Mil Spec, Kimber and some of the various tactical labelled offerings).

Just my opinion.
