GI Sling on M14

On my green canvas M14 sling there is a metal clip on one end. Does this clip get attached to the front swivel or the back or does it matter?

You may see all sorts of variations, but it was designed to go onto the rear.

It was designed for the rear. But if you put it on the front, you can make a dandy single point sling setup that can be detached quickly from you rifle and stay on your bicep. This is useful mostly for competition shooters though.
