Gifted K98

Hey lads,

So, my bro has been gifted a lot of firearms lately (tough problem to have ).

He doesn’t know squat. He got a BSA SMLE given to him, good condition, then an Iver-Johnson M1 22LR and now this.
Looks to be a K98 in 8mm Mauser (if it was .308 I’d be over the moon), he thinks it might be Bengali? I though it might be Persian.

I’ve always wanted a K98. Can the brain-trust make sense of this thing?

Either a type 46 or type 46/66 Mauser. Most likely a type 46/66. The giveaway is the rear sight, the photo is too blurry to tell.

Caliber will either be 8x50r (basically 8x50r mannlicher) or 8x52r (most likely).

Look at the side of the rear sight. If it looks like it has been "shaved" a bit and the parts of the tops of some numbers look like they were machined off, then the calibre was modified to x52R.
