ok! So i am really itching to spend some money..this is what im looking for in a gun, toss me some ideas pls!

Id like it to reload fast (not bolt and preferably not semi auto)

open sights or some sight ideas that allow fast acquisition of a target

cheap ammo!! for practice, don't care if a hunting round is more...only going to use a few per season anyway!

something that can shoot a min of 100yrds accurate enough for deer

the lighter the recoil the better!

what I currently have is a savage axis .270 and a mossberg 500 12gauge

if possible below $500

been looking at lever actions, mill surps, or maybe a scout rifle set up...toss me opinions and ideas id really appreciate them!

where have you fund 30-30's for 15$!! i see em for closer to 20 everywhere!

any caliber that would be cheaper AND work other then the norm $20/box .308/.270/30-06?

i was looking at the 357mag...some say it works..but its kinda small it seems

Must be a regional thing, I can get Winchester or Remington soft points in Ontario for around $15 fairly easily. Ive paid as low as $12 in the last year at a store.

If you like pistol cartridges, I'd bump up to the .44mag. Certainly enough for deer at 100m. Plinking ammo can be had for around $35 per 50 (if not cheaper occasionally) and hunting ammo is around the $1 per shell range for the soft points.

EDIT - Just checked the current LeBaron catalogue, and they have 3030 Winchester PowerPoints for $13.94. Remington Core Lokts are $14.94

Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine - smoothest bolt surpassed only by a 30-40 Krag or 6mm Lee Navy (you can't afford either of those).

Lever carbine, in 44 Magnum.

you guys out east must have things cheaper then alberta, just checked wholesalesports.com and 44mag are about 1$ a shot :(

anyone every successfully used a 12g smooth bore with rifled slugs between 50-100yds
or used an sks to hunt?

The SKS does as well ballistically as a 30-30. A 20ga pump shoots flatter and has less recoil.

I've been getting my munitions prices from various CGN sponsors.

Sportered No1 mk3 enfield
Been killing deer with mine every year for almost 2 decades. 2 mulie 4pt (3x4 and 4x4) and 2 wolves so far this season. Leavin for moose with her in the mornin :D
Yes, I have other rifles, magnums even hehehe but nothing feels as good in my hands than my custom enfield ;)
Ammo's cheap and widely availlable too

What's wrong with the Savage Axis in 270 the OP already has?
That would seem to be accurate to 100 and then some and perfect for deer out to 250 or more if you are a compatent shot.

How does your 270 shoot? If it's good, I would just stick with that and spend the money on another staple like a 10/22. If it doesn't shoot good, maybe spend a little on the rifle you have to make it work better. You really can't fault that calibre for deer.

i wish! i thought enfields where pretty pricey now! and dont they take a .303 british? i thought that was still about 1$ a shot?

btw super jealous on the wolves...did you call them in? or just by chance?

id really like something with cheaper ammo for practice...also I have a hard on for lever actions...always wanted one :)

.270 works great just want something new :)

You need a short barreled shot gun!

How about this one? :D

Glow in the dark sight, custom barrel shroud, and few spare furniture sets. Shoot cheap target ammo or bad a$$ 3"slugs!

And it can be delivered! OMG WOW!

303 costs the same as 30-30. The cheapest ammunition to fit your requirements is 7.62x39, hence the SKS suggestion, where you could have a 100yd deer rifle with 1440 rounds for $500.

Sporterized Enfields are cheap, moreso if you buy one without a magazine, but you're correct that original condition units are getting expensive, especially with sling and bayonet.
