gimmy gun ideas!!

You only need one box of soft point ammunition for hunting, but you'll need a few hundred rounds of any type for target practice.

So tack on $20 for 25 hunting cartridges, which will last for a few seasons.

I've shot deer with my SKS, legal hunting ammunition is easy to find and doesn't shoot appreciably different from surplus ammo.

I have a field and security barrel mossberg 500 alrdy in 12g :)

but how is shooting slugs with yours? ive never rly shot them...any decent accuracy over 50yrds?

How about this one? :D

Glow in the dark sight, custom barrel shroud, and few spare furniture sets. Shoot cheap target ammo or bad a$$ 3"slugs!

And it can be delivered! OMG WOW!

I bought a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 with a 4X Leopold scope although a receiver mounted appeture sight is certainly an option. With standard factory loads recoil is like a 12 gage or slightly less. Since I have not shot any game over 100 yds. this caliber works just fine. Factory ammo and bullets are expensive but I reload and cast my own bullets so it is affordable.

Forget the SKS and Enfield... Accuracy is luck of the draw... Some are ok and some suck. Mil Surp ammo is crap... Sounds like you are primed for a good used Win 94 in .30/30... Besides being inexpensive to shoot, very (reliably) accurate out to 150 yards... It is just plain fun, and a gun you will want to keep. Your $500 will buy the gun and 6 boxes of ammo... The rest is up to you.

ok! So i am really itching to spend some money..this is what im looking for in a gun, toss me some ideas pls!

Id like it to reload fast (not bolt and preferably not semi auto)

open sights or some sight ideas that allow fast acquisition of a target

cheap ammo!! for practice, don't care if a hunting round is more...only going to use a few per season anyway!

something that can shoot a min of 100yrds accurate enough for deer

the lighter the recoil the better!

what I currently have is a savage axis .270 and a mossberg 500 12gauge

if possible below $500

been looking at lever actions, mill surps, or maybe a scout rifle set up...toss me opinions and ideas id really appreciate them!

Its funny, the first thing you say that you just have to do is spend your money. Call up a few gun stores and ask for a quote on a bulk purchase of .270 ammo instead of a new gun. All non-milsurp factory center fire ammo is going to be expensive after awhile regardless the caliber.

I'd definitely stick with the axis in .270 before going to something different. The 270 is a great deer round and a far better choice than a 30-30, especially if you want to practice with it at longer distances IMHO. Bolt actions reload plenty quick, you can try practicing with the action a bit more and you'll be able to reload it as fast as a pump or lever action. If you want the ability to blow all 5 as fast as you can, get a semi. If the end goal is to use the gun for deer hunting, you'll usually only need/get one shot so you don't have to be able to reload it super fast. If you want faster target acquisition, buy a lower powered scope or buy one of these and attach a nice red dot to it if 100 yards is your limit. If you want lighter recoil, switch to a lighter grain bullet.

Another option is buying a rifled barrel for your Mossberg 500, you can get them for dirt cheap and you'll have the ability to shoot 100 yards with sabots. However you won't see much of a costs savings in ammo.

Either way I think I found the problem you're having.

Instead of buying that mosin nagant, you should have put all of that money towards 8 boxes of .270 ammo for the gun you already have. Then when it comes time to buy ammo for the mosin, instead of buying a case of ammo, put all of that money towards another 8 boxes of shells. You're up to 320 rounds already. Then instead of buying a nice new $500 marlin 30-30 to replace the axis, put that money towards another 20 boxes of ammo. You're up to 720 rounds already. Call up a gun store and buy 36 boxes of .270 at a time and I'm sure you'll be able to buy even more ammo with the money you'll save from the bulk purchase.

The axis is one of the greatest bang for your buck rifles, you should stick with it.

Actually another great option would be to invest that money into a reloading setup for your .270. You can reload each round for less than 30-40cents.
