Giraud power case trimmer.... Thinking of switching

Damn! I'd never heard of these guys but that looks awesome! Ive been thinking about getting into the fortester set up but this may be the way to go!
 
Frankford Arsenal Platinum case trimmer doesn't do it all at once, but it is a fairly affordable powered case trimmer. I use it for bulk case processing and supports a variety of calibers right out of the box.

Don't know if the Frankford unit trims, chamfers, and deburs at once but after getting the Giraud trimmer I said I should have got it sooner. Its pricey but trimming being so tedious and time consuming its worth it. I had a Wilson stainless trimmer with micrometer adjustment and it was accurate but very slow, not to mention you had to chamfer and debur after trimming.

All in for everything you see in the picture... came to $1000 canadian. Plus 95$ the cbsa grabbed.

Just wondering if you considered buying only the tri-way trimmer head ( http://www.giraudtool.com/giraud-tri-way-trimmer.html ) and chuck it in a drill press?

I'm thinking of this since I have 1000+ 223 brass to process and don't have the $$ for the whole powered unit in my shooting budget so was wondering about pro's and cons of putting the trimmer head in a drill press.

I use this model on my Dewalt cordless and it's great. My plan is eventually to mount it in a press but for now doing 2-300 at a time it's perfect.
 
A couple other types that work too.
Little Crow gun works - "worlds finest trimmer"
Holub Machine & Repair- ""WCT" Worlds cheapest trimmer"

I have tried both and am happy with them .
 
Price has definitely gone up. I got mine in 2015, checked receipt and it was $619 USD. That included case holders,cutter blades for 308 and 6.5 CM and shipping from US. Customs was $53. I would probably still get it even with the increased prices. Worth it's weight in gold imo.

Even better. You can buy 1/2 or 1 hp moter and connect the tri-way to it. Then you have a somewhat stationary unit. Not as elegant as the power trimmer but it works.
 
223's are $400/1000 nowadays. I'm kinda just holding off on getting into reloading rifle cartridges. But the long winter time is coming so I may need something to occupy myself.

Thats awesome to hear. I want one of these badly as trimming my 223 brass is a painful process. I only want this for 1 caliber as I have a LE wilson lathe for my precision rounds. That should save me a couple bucks off what your total was...I hope.

How fast to go through 100 cases?

I did 100 .308 cases today in like 7 minutes. I love this thing.

I I think I got mine in 2004 or 2005, and I'm confident that you'll be very happy with yours. I got in the habit of turning the case in my fingers as it trimmed to ensure even trimming, its probably not necessary, but it makes me feel better. I purchased a separate cutter for each different caliber, so that I didn't have to constantly adjust the cutter each time I was prepping a different cartridge, so I have .22, 6mm, .257, 7mm, .308, and .375 cutters, and one or two spares for what may come. Be sure not to attempt to trim the case much shorter than spec; if you touch the shell holder with the cutter, it does neither any good.
