Girsan ... model 92 clone

Got both a blued rail compact and a full size blue, both were $450 when I got them a couple years ago.
Good solid guns and all Betetta parts I've tried fit.

i bought the compact 9mm a few months ago and after a few trips to the range im pleased with it. i ran 115gr, 124 gr and 146gr and it ate them all with no issues. the mags that came with it work flawlessly. i ordered spare 92f mags and just got it today.. They fit tight, dont drop free and wont lock the slide open empty. Does anyone know where Girsan mags can be found.

MecGar are the best mags by far for this gun. The factory mags are MecGar. Don't even consider the Pro-Mag as the follower can slip over the slide release catch once the mag is empty. If that happens you will be cursing until you free it, or break it (the gun). If the slide closes, even part way, it is a PITA to fix it! I have fixed a few guns that have suffered this fate. Once this happens, the owners finally get it, even though they were warned, and just toss the Pro-Mags in the trash! They really are that bad.

Are the Promag problems unique to the Girsan's / Berettas

I tried both, had the money for both, but bought the Turkish pistol. It fit my hands better due to the finger grips on the front. It has nicer, smoother action. I didn't believe it at first, but I kept trying them and, yes it was smoother. It has a steel guide rod and trigger, unlike the plastic ones in the Italian.

The only thing I don't like was the cheap grips and the heavy double action trigger pull.

I bought a Beretta "D" spring for a few bucks, and that solved the trigger pull.

I found a set of real nice fancy grade Beretta Walnut grips, "used" but not used for less than $50 shipped.

All problems solved.

I have fired roughly 2k rounds of assorted 9mm thru it with 0, ZERO failures. ever. nothing.

Its accurate, smooth, fits my hands well, looks great and was less than $525 all in.

Just because its a "clone" in this case does not make any less of a good pistol.

also, apparently, they have solved some of the metallurgy issues that made some of the US made 92FS pistols break around the rear slide area.

No, it can't fulfil your need to have an "original" nor does it have the pedigree of the Beretta, but if you can deal with those things, this is a better pistol.

oh and all mags work just fine in it, even 96(.40cal) mags

Hell, I even have tried to make it fail by limp wristing it, and unless you really go out of your way, it just won't fail.

I even loaded 3-4 different kinds of 9mm in a bunch of mags and just did mag dump after mag dump and with a mix of all 3 sizes of bullet, factory loads, reloads, aluminum and brass cases, hollow points, flat nose, round nose etc, it just continued to function no problem whatsoever.

With regard to spare mags

I don't remember specifics but much of what I've read/heard about Promags is negative. Mecgar seems to have a pretty solid reputation for a wide variety of replacement mags.

I've seen the same about 1911 replacements Mecgar & Metalform come to mind

Nice. Just placed an order.

Scratch that. Refused to sell without proof of range membership. As I'm currently in between clubs can't provide proof of membership. Insists that federal law prohibits them from doing so. I guess the other three restricted firearms I purchased in the last few months from retailers were all fictious. I'll take my business elsewhere.
