Hello everyone,

I have had my Girsan Regard MC (Beretta 92F essentially..) since 2012 and have shot roughly 4,000 rounds with 0 malfunctions.

Recently I have started to get failure to extracts. I just did a full disassemble and clean as well as replacing the extractor and extractor spring.

Just took it to the range and every 3rd shot it essentially doesnt extract and tries to load a new round.

I took 1 shot as well, no magazine, the round wouldnt eject and the slide crushed the brass a little.

I cleaned all my magazines and this happens with all 5 of them and with different ammo as well.

Any ideas? Possibly worn out recoil spring?

Any pointers would be helpful, thanks!

It sounds like your extractor is slipping off the cartridge rim yet you did replace it. I would look there first, again.

Some things to look at. When you cleaned your gun, did you really clean out the breach face? How strong is your recoil spring? I had the same issue with my M&P Pro recently and found the extractor area was gunked up despite me cleaning the gun after each shoot. A toothpick and some light elbow grease solved my issue. You might also check the chamber of your barrel. It should be clean as a whistle. Just reaching but you want to check there anyway.

Did you change your lubing routine? I had huge issues with my 92 when I took it out shooting after sitting in the safe for years. It was dry as a bone and had tons of issues like FTE and FTFs. Once lubed, it ran like a champ.
92s like to run well lubed.

I just ordered a new 13lb recoil spring which is the same as the stock one - maybe it's worn out and short stroking?

I cleaned the extractor area and where the extractor spring sits - I think ill get some toothpicks and q-tips and try again to make sure it's clean. I am assuming my original extractor was actually fine since my new one did the exact same thing on the first shot.

My chamber is completely clean, I take good care of the gun and that's why I'm kind of stumped right now. I disassembled and completed quite a thorough clean, only thing I didn't do was remove the firing pin because I didn't have a punch small enough to get the safety off unfortunately.

Nope - I have been doing the same since day 1 - 4,000 or more rounds with 0 malfunctions until now

Looks like you're doing everything right. How about the ammo? Different brand?

I was using Blazer 115 grain and then tried 124 grain with same results - I am going to pick up different brands on the way home from work I think.

I have shot roughly 2,000 rounds of Blazer alone through this gun because I got a great deal on it, so I can't imagine that is the reason, it has never been picky with ammo before.

I think I'll use a toothpick on the extractor area, wait for that recoil spring and try again. I'll post here with how it went, hopefully I'll get the spring today or tomorrow.

Yeah, let us know how it works. Weird that the Girsan is misfiring after so few rounds. The BERETTA family is usually very reliable.

Was the slide locking back on the last round? That might be indicative of a short stroke.

I never got to the bottom of a magazine now that I think of it..

The second picture is 1 round with no magazine inserted. Normally it would fire, extract, and the slode would close with no round in the chamber. This time it fired, tried to extract it, and then crushed the casing. Possible short stroking then?

Exactly.. I have never really heard of problems before, I know people with twice as many rounds through there Girsan and Beretta without issues. I will figure this out somehow..

Is it likely in Pic 2 the extractor slipped off the case, the slide then returned to battery hitting the stranded case and crushing it. With no mag in the gun with a round in it you don;t get the effect you got in Pic 1 where clearly the extractor is off the round.
